Day One DLC and Digital Deluxe Edition detailed for Shin Megami Tensei V [Update]

Update (November 1)

Atlus West has shared screenshots and artwork for the announced DLCs, and we've included those in the galleries below.

Original (October 21)

Shin Megami Tensei V is right around the corner, and Atlus is eager to tempt fans with a bevy of Day One DLC. During the fourth and final episode of their SMTV news program, four content-focused packs were revealed as well as three bits designed to assist players with the game's grind.

We've compiled a detailed list of the DLCs and their descriptions courtesy of Shin Megami Tensei V's North American eShop page. All DLC announced so far will be available at launch for the prices listed, or as part of the game's Digital Deluxe Edition, priced at $84.99. If you're doing the math, purchasing all the DLCs separately would run you $30.

Return of the Demon - $9.99

Grants access to the subquest "Return of the True Demon". In this quest, players will be able to take on and recruit the legendary nine Fiends: Matador, Hell Biker, White Rider, Red Rider, Black Rider, Pale Rider, Mother Harlot, and Trumpeter. The challenge doesn't stop there, however, for upon defeating the fiends, players will then be able to challenge the strongest opponent of them all: the Demi-fiend.

  • *After progressing to a certain point in the game, you will then be able to begin the subquest when visiting the World of Shadows.
  • *The Fiends will make their appearances as you progress through the story.
  • *Once completed, you will not be able to fight the Fiends again, but you will have the option of fighting the Demi-fiend as many times as you want.
  • *Note that you cannot recruit the Demi-fiend.
  • *It is recommended that challenging the Fiends be attempted at sometime halfway through the game. Challenging the Demi-fiend is best attempted in the post-game.

Rage of a Queen - $2.99

Grants access to the subquest "The Rage of a Queen". In this quest, players will be able to take on "Femme Cleopatra," and even recruit her should they prove victorious.

  • *After progressing to a certain point in the game, talk to the Bethel researcher in the Tokyo Diet Building to begin the subquest. Once completed, you will have the option of fighting Cleopatra as many times as you want.
  • *It is recommended that this subquest be attempted near the end of the game.

A Goddess in Training - $4.99

Grants access to the subquest "A Goddess in Training." In this quest, players will be able to take on "Megami Artemis," and even recruit her should they prove victorious.

  • *After progressing to a certain point in the game, talk to the Bethel researcher in the Tokyo Diet Building to begin the subquest. Once completed, you will have the option of fighting Artemis as many times as you want.
  • *It is recommended that this subquest be attempted at least halfway through the game.

The Doctor's Last Wish - $2.99

Grants access to the subquest "The Doctor's Last Wish". In this quest, players will be able to take on "Tyrant Mephisto," and even recruit him should they prove victorious.

  • *It is recommended that this subquest be attempted near the end of the game.

The Shin Megami Tensei V Digital Deluxe Edition has also been announced. At $84.99, it includes all of the above DLCs as well as the "Safety Difficulty" setting and "Japanese voices pack." (Notably, Safety Difficulty and the ability to swap to Japanese voices are both free downloads, so you're not missing out if you elect not to shell out some extra cash.)

Pre-orders are up on the North American and Japanese eShops for the Digital Deluxe Edition, with the European eShop presumably updating shortly to include the listing.
