Fate/Samurai Remnant releases for PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC Steam in 2023

Type-Moon revealed Fate/Samurai Remnant, a new action RPG made in collaboration with Koei Tecmo Games, on the 2023 New Years' Eve. The game will be available worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2023.

Omega-Force and Kou Shibusawa's team from Koei Tecmo will handle the game's development. While the former is better known for producing the Warriors action game series, Samurai Remnant will look like anything but. Perhaps it's also because Type-Moon had already worked with Marvelous to release two Warriors-like games with an in-series crossover roster - Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star and its side-sequel Fate/Extella Link. Nevertheless, the lack of "Musou" or "Warriors" in the title will mean that this game won't be included in the official Warriors series, just like Dragon Quest Heroes and Persona 5 Strikers.

Fate/Samurai Remnant will tell a new original story taking place in feudal-era Japan. It will feature the Waxing Moon Ritual as an alternate version of the Fate series' Holy Grail War. The cutscene shown in the trailer also has a parallel from the beginning sections of Fate/stay night, where the protagonist nonchalantly summoned a helper character when he was on the verge of getting killed by an enemy. The latter segment also confirmed the appearance of Miyamoto Musashi, who had appeared as a Servant in prior Fate titles.

The teaser trailer was first shown at Type-Moon's annual New Year's Eve live stream in Japan. However, Koei Tecmo also published it on their own YouTube channels soon after. The company has also set up North American and European versions of the official website, confirming that this new title will be available worldwide.
