Momodora: Moonlit Farewell launches on January 11, 2024

Playism has announced that Momodora: Moonlit Farewell will launch on January 11, 2024, for PC (Steam).

Playism originally announced plans to publish Moonlit Farewell in January 2022. Developed by Bombservice, Moonlit Farewell takes place after Momodora III and works as a 'concluding story' for the series. Noting that the more recent Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight works as a prequel to the mainline series, creator rdein states that Moonlit Farewell is being made to be as enjoyable as possible without prior knowledge of other series' entries.

About the Game

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is the culmination of the Momodora series, and takes place 5 years after the events of Momodora III. Momo, High Priestess of the village of Koho, is tasked to set off on a journey to save the world from demons, who were summoned by the ringing of a mysterious bell. Explore a fantastical world, purify demons with flashy attacks and Sigils, and uncover myths untold.

The Momodora series is a series of 2D exploration-heavy action games developed by the indie developer Bombservice since 2010. There have been 4 entries to the series so far, and it’s known for its gorgeous pixel art and quick, satisfying action. The previous game, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, has received critical acclaim, selling over 800,000 copies worldwide.

This newest entry to the series is a culmination of all the know-how the developers have accumulated over so many years of the Momodora series, and it’s designed to be enjoyed by both series veterans and newcomers alike.

The release date has been scheduled for January 11, 2024! Please wishlist the game while you wait.

Game Features

A Metroidvania with Gorgeous Pixel Art and Animations

Every stage you’ll explore is drawn in meticulous pixel art, and every character moves smoothly and dynamically with their own animations. The visual effects have also been improved from previous games, bringing the mystical and enchanting world of Momodora to life.

Use the Sigil System to Customize Your Run

You can obtain “Sigils” from shops, exploring the map, or from certain events. Effects range from strengthening attacks or healing, to summoning magic swords to smite your enemies.

After you obtain a Sigil, you can activate or deactivate it whenever you like, so you can swap them on the run and customize your abilities to match your playstyle.

Blood-Pumping Boss Battles

On your journey, you’ll encounter all sorts of formidable bosses, some with their own special gimmicks, and some being simply gigantic! Use your attacks and Sigils wisely to defeat them all.

Explore Leisurely, or Fight Challenging Foes?

You can pick freely between the casual, lighthearted “Light” difficulty if you want a more laid-back experience, or the “Normal” difficulty if you’re looking for a challenge. The Light difficulty also includes a toggleable Adaptive Difficulty feature that makes your character stronger every time you fall in battle.
