Rune Worth: The Young Noble in Black PC-9801 version ported to Nintendo Switch via EGG Console
D4 Enterprise is gradually releasing a new EGG Console port of the first Rune Worth action RPG by T&E Soft on Nintendo Switch digitally worldwide. The company has also prepared a link on the American Nintendo eShop at US$7.16, although the actual listing has still yet to go live as of this writing.
The game's full title in Japanese is Rune Worth -Kokui no Kikoushi-, which can also be translated to English as Rune Worth: The Young Noble in Black. This port is specifically based on the PC-9801 version, which was released on April 20, 1990. Even though D4 Enterprise is releasing the port worldwide, the actual game is still only available in Japanese.
As a side note, D4 Enterprise had previously released the same port for modern Windows PCs in September 2022. They also released more ports of the same game based on different versions in the X68000, MSX2, and the January 12, 1990 PC-8801 releases.
T&E Soft would later release two sequels for this title—Rune Worth 2: God Wars in Spacetime and Rune Worth 3: Advent of Brand-New Century. The PC-9801 versions of the second and third entries in the trilogy have also been ported on the Japanese PC platform website.
You can watch the official gameplay trailer for the PC-9801 version of Rune Worth: The Young Noble in Black based on the EGG Console PC platform right below, to get a good grasp on how the same game will look like on the Switch. Screenshots and descriptions for the game also follow right after.
At the boundary of light and darkness, there existed a world called Rune Worth. Once, everything was born, flourished, and perished there—even the gods were no exception, it is said. The tale of EA=Rune Worth, which is about to be told, begins with the birth of the absolute god, Eatils. Yet, even this is only a small fragment of the many stories that should be told in Rune Worth...
This action RPG was released in 1990. Players take on the role of a young traveler, journeying through the world of Rune Worth, gradually becoming entangled in a grand adventure. At first glance, it may seem like a conventional action RPG, but it is packed with unique features.
For example, level-ups occur through events and items, meaning battles with enemies can be kept to a minimum, allowing players to purely enjoy the story. Spells require casting time, and if the player is attacked during casting, the spell is interrupted. Even small actions, such as opening treasure chests or crouching, have dedicated character animations. These elements come together to create a distinctive RPG experience.
