Check out the ports of the Japanese retro action RPG Marchen Veil on Project EGG
One of the classic action RPGs widely talked about in the Japanese retro gaming scene is Marchen Veil. This game appeared exclusively on legacy Japanese PCs, but D4 Enterprise has been gradually porting the versions to Windows 10 and 11 PCs, as well as Nintendo Switch, via their Project EGG emulator platform.
Marchen Veil has the player control a prince from the lake kingdom who has been turned into a monster by a wizard's curse. The ultimate objective for the prince is to return as a human and marry the princess of the forest kingdom.
The game was originally released by System Sacom for PC-9801 in August 1985. The same company later ported it to PC-8801, X1, MSX, MSX2, FM-7, and MZ-2500, with the last port appearing on Nintendo's Famicom Disk System in March 1987.
D4 Enterprise has since been gradually releasing ports of the multiple PC versions of Marchen Veil on their Project EGG platform. The PC-8801 and MSX versions are notably available for free, but they have also released the paid port of the FM-7 version, as well as the PC-9801 version bundled with the sequel Marchen Veil II, which appeared exclusively on the latter. As of this writing, the company has just released another port of the same game based on the MSX2 version.
In addition, D4 Enterprise has also released one of the game's ports for Nintendo Switch via EGG Console. This one is based on the PC-8801mkIISR version, and it is available worldwide at US$6.49—although the original game is still only available in Japanese.
