Kingdoms of Amalur sales to blame for 38 Studios demise

For a brand new IP, you'd think Kingdoms of Amalur did alright for itself when it managed to sell over 400K units in the US when it launched this past February. Apparently that wasn't enough.

An executive from 38 Studios testified as much in court, saying that the company expected to sell 2 million units of the game. 2 million in sales would have given the studio enough money to pay their debts, however, actual sell-through figures have the game currently at 1.3-1.4 million.

EA apparently took home 70% of the profits earned while 38 Studios only were given 30%. 38 Studios also owed EA $30 million for the advance that was taken out to actually create Reckoning.
