Utawarerumono series creator company Aquaplus will be sold

Pole To Win Holdings has announced that they will transfer Aquaplus, along with the latter's shares, to another non-group company. In other words, the holding group will sell the game company to a third party.

This transfer sale will be part of Pole To Win's plan to withdraw from the Media Contents Business. For the record, Aquaplus was acquired by the holding group in December 2022 and became one of the companies placed under HIKE, which was established later in February 2023 to handle the aforementioned business. But while Aquaplus has had a rather modest profit in the last 2 years, their direct parent company HIKE made huge losses for 3 consecutive fiscal years.

Pole To Win is now going to separate Aquaplus from HIKE and place the former as a direct subsidiary in the holding company. By doing this, the group can offer Aquaplus as a standalone game development company to a broader range of prospective buyers. But even after the business withdrawal and transfer sale are finished, Pole To Win will continue maintaining a partnership with Aquaplus, as the group is eyeing to invest in the global game market, of which they foresee a promising growth.

Right now, Aquaplus is best known for working on the remake of the visual novel ToHeart. However, the company is also better known in the RPG community for the Utawarerumono series. In fact, Aquaplus announced late last year that they are also working on the latter's new entry, Utawarerumono: Shiro he no Michishirube, which currently has a Japanese release window this Fall. While the ToHeart remake should be releasing very soon, it is yet to be known whether the company sale will have any effects on the new Utawarerumono's development.
