Behold Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn with an all new trailer

Square Enix has offered a first glimpse at Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 - a realm reborn - with a new trailer. See it below.

Final Fantasy XIV has had something of a checkered history - but Square Enix acknowledge that. The game launched to a critical and commercial mauling, and Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada even acknowledged that he felt the FF brand had been "greatly damaged" by the game. The company even went as far as suspending subscription fees and replacing many of the top-tier staff on the game. Finally, the PS3 version was delayed indefinitely - altogether a startling admission of failure from a company usually as steadfast as Square Enix.

Enter Naoki Yoshida - the game's new producer, a young newcomer with a vision of creating a better game.

"The most important thing to us is ensuring that the customers feel once again that the Final Fantasy franchise is amazing, and making sure that they understand - well, feel - that Final Fantasy is a great game," he told us in November last year. We've interviewed him two other times, too, most recently at E3 2012.

This trailer offers a glimpse at Yoshida's vision for the game, teasing further announcements going forward. We'll be seeing Yoshida and some of his team again at GamesCom in three weeks time, and shortly after that the PC version of the game will enter open Beta.

2.0 is a complete overhaul of XIV, and will then be what the company launches on PlayStation 3 in 2013. You can read our impressions of Version 2.0 from E3 2012 through this link.
