Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake on Nintendo Switch cannot be upgraded to the Nintendo Switch 2 version

Square Enix has published a new FAQ for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake confirming that there is no upgrade path for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions.

Square Enix also detailed that the Switch 2 and the Switch versions of the game are treated as separate games with no save data transfer between them. The Switch version can be played on Switch 2 via backward compatibility though. 

If you missed it, read James' hands-on preview and details for the save data bonus here. These bonuses will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2 from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (Switch 1) save data.  So while Switch 1 save data for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake can be read by Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake for Nintendo Switch 2, there is no actual save data transfer for Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake to be clear.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake launches on October 30 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).
