Alongside the new 'Erdrick's Legacy' trailer shared at this week's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Square Enix has also shared new screenshots and information for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, detailing the character cast in each game, world locations, and new additions in the remake.

Overview
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will launch simultaneously worldwide on Oct. 30, 2025! This title is a full remake that combines Dragon Quest I (DQ I) and Dragon Quest II (DQ II) – which depict the world after Dragon Quest III – into one game. Both DQ I and DQ II have been significantly enhanced with new features and other additions. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch , PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows. Cutscenes now feature voiced dialogue, and the game’s music has been re-recorded with an orchestra. Additionally, the Collector’s Edition, which includes acrylic blocks of the characters, will be available alongside the standard edition. For more details, check out the official website!
In this game, both Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II feature numerous additional scenarios, and in DQ II, the Princess of Cannock joins as the fourth party member! Even those who have played the original games can enjoy a brand-new experience. Furthermore, by playing Dragon Quest I & II after Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake released last year, you can experience episodes that highlight the connection between the three games in the Erdrick Trilogy, as well as some surprising twists and turns. Story and Protagonist
Thanks to the heroic efforts of the legendary Erdrick, the Lord of the Underworld was defeated and peace returned to the land of Alefgard. Yet this peace was not to last, as the diabolical Dragonlord has risen and unleashed hordes of monsters on the realm once more. Now, descendant of Erdrick, it is your destiny to defeat this new evil and rescue the world from its plight!

Dragon Quest I - Setting
Dragon Quest I is set in a land called Alefgard, created by Rubiss. The protagonist sets out from Tantegel and embarks on a journey around the world.
Legends about the hero Erdrick can be found all over the world.
Some towns have been destroyed by monsters, and some places are being invaded by poisonous marshes.
Tantegel - The starting point of your adventure. It is ruled by King Lorik XVI and has deep ties to the hero Erdrick.
Princess Gwaelin

The only daughter of the King of Tantegel, she possesses the power to hear the voice of Rubiss. She is bright, friendly, and beloved by her people, but several months ago she was kidnapped by the Dragonlord and has been missing ever since.
Introduction to Dragon Quest II
Story
Many years have passed since Alefgard was saved at the hero's hand, earning him the same title as his storied forebear. The descendants of this Erdrick and his scions founded three kingdoms that thrived in peacetime. Yet, darkness stirs once more, and a sudden invasion of malicious monsters plunges the world into shadow again. All that stands between the forces of evil and their wicked ambitions is a band of young princes and princesses of Erdrick's lineage. The time has come for them to venture forth and honor their ancestor's legacy!
News of the Moonbrooke incident reaches the King of Midenhall. Following his father's orders, the Prince of Midenhall, who is the protagonist, sets out to seek the truth.
As you progress through the adventure, you will gain more companions. Sometimes you will squabble, but through your adventures, you will deepen your friendships and bonds.
As the story progresses, you'll gain access to more modes of transportation, allowing you to explore an even more expansive world!

A vast world with various towns and castles, including the continent where the legendary heroes once roamed. Midenhall, Cannock, and Moonbrooke, founded by the descendants of the hero Erdrick are known as the Three Great Kingdoms and they uphold relations.
Midenhall - The kingdom created by the hero who saved the world. Named after the castle built by the hero and his bride. The town below the castle is bustling with activity, with new buildings under construction.
