Alongside the announcement trailer for Octopath Traveler 0revealed at this week's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Square Enix has also shared the first screenshots and information for the upcoming HD-2D RPG, showcasing the game's new battle system, town-building, the first set of travelers, and more.

What is Octopath Traveler 0?
The latest installment in the Octopath Traveler RPG series which has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Set on the continent of Orsterra, the world of the original Octopath Traveler, this is a story of revenge and restoration surrounding the divine rings.
Story
On that day, in the protagonist's hometown of Wishvale, the annual Day of Reverence was being held, and the town was bustling with smiling faces. However, just as they were about to light the blue flame that protects peace, the town was attacked and engulfed in red flames— Will you choose the path of revenge, or the path of restoration? The choice is yours. Embark on an adventure of your own creation.

Use Path Actions to invite people to your town, battle with townspeople, obtain items, and more. Where to go and what to do is entirely up to the player.
You can try various Path Actions depending on who you talk to.
Battle System
8-Character Party Turn-Based Battle
Form your own party from over 30+ travelers! A new battle system where you switch between the front and back rows. Enjoy faster, more strategic battles.
Form a party with travelers you meet on your adventures.
The turn-based aspect from previous games in the series remains unchanged.
Break & Boost System
Break: Exploiting your foe's weaknesses reduces their Shield Points, and once their points reach 0, they will become broken! Breaking an enemy renders them temporarily unable to act and reduces their defense, creating opportunities for both attack and recovery!
Boost: Enhance your actions with Boost Points (BP) that accumulate each turn! This enhances not only attack count and potency of attacks, but also recovery skills and support effects. Use these points for offense or defense—it's up to you!
Reduce a foe’s Shield Points to 0 to break them, and then use this chance to deliver powerful attacks!
You can take the initiative and seize the upper hand or wait for the right moment and strike with a decisive blow. The strategy is up to you!
