Square Enix and Limited Run Games have announced Nintendo Switch and PS4 physical editions for Star Ocean: First Departure R with pre-orders beginning September 12 until October 26.

Star Ocean: First Departure R launched back in December 2019 as a digital-only PS4 and Switch game. It will be getting three physical editions from Limited Run Games with the standard edition priced at $39.99, SteelBook Edition priced at $79.99, and Ultimate Edition priced at $199.99.
Star Ocean: First Departure R is now available digitally on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Limited Run Games, a premium publisher of physical video games, has partnered with Square Enix to bring physical editions of Star Ocean First Departure R to players, with pre-orders going live on 12 September, 2025 and ending on 26 October, for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
First released in 1996, Star Ocean earned an army of fans for being one of the first real-time RPGs that allowed players to influence the storyline's outcome through their actions and dialogue choices. 25 years later, First Departure R introduced prerendered 3D backgrounds to the game, new character art, animated cut-scenes, fully voiced dialogue and new playable characters.
Star Ocean First Departure R is the perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy, offering gamers a revitalised version of the franchise's maiden voyage, released nearly 30 years ago in the quiet village of Kratus. A young Roddick and his friends set out to cure a mysterious disease that turns people to stone. Their search leads them to Mt. Metorx, where fate collides with the arrival of spacefaring strangers. What began as a local quest for survival soon expands into an interstellar journey across galaxies, weaving together destiny, time, and the struggle to save their world.
First Departure R was previously launched in 2019 as a digital-only title, but now, players will be able to get their hands on one of three exciting physical editions of the game, launching on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
