1984 PC-8801 release of Courageous Perseus gets a Nintendo Switch EGG Console port
D4 Enterprise is gradually releasing a new Nintendo Switch port of the 1984 PC-8801 version of Courageous Perseus as part of the EGG Console series. The port is set to be available on Nintendo eShops worldwide, including the US store at $6.49.
This classic action RPG is themed after Greek mythology, and the player assumes the role of Perseus, who is tasked to restore the island inhabited by the three Goddesses of Beauty. This game notably has two available methods to clear; the player can choose whether to collect all 12 Zodiac items or the 3 Goddesses' statues.
You can find the official trailer, screenshots, and descriptions for the Courageous Perseus port right below. As a side note, a port based on the same version is also available for Windows PC via Project EGG; but while it is listed for free, overall access still requires a monthly EGG Service subscription at ¥550.
A single island in the southern sea was once a peaceful flower garden, home to the Goddesses of Beauty: Maia, Celaeno, and Asterope. It was then invaded by the Gorgon clan.
The beautiful garden vanished, replaced by jagged rock faces and ominous moss, transforming it into a magical, cursed island.
Entrusting the 12 Zodiac constellations to residents, the Goddesses tried to flee but were caught by the Gorgon clan. The Gorgon's rage sealed the Goddesses in stone and corrupted the residents' hearts.
The Goddesses' sorrowful cries reached the great god Zeus in the heavens, carried by the wind. His tears then fell as rain, soaking the earth.
The Goddesses' sorrow reached the great god Zeus, who summoned Perseus. Armed with a sacred shield and sword from Athena and Hermes, Perseus journeys to the southern island to rescue the Goddesses and restore its peace. This Action RPG was released by COSMOS COMPUTER in 1984. The hero Perseus embarks on an adventure to rescue the Goddess of Beauty on a magical island ruled by the Gorgon.
You increase health by defeating enemies and acquiring items. True to the Action RPG style, combat involves bumping into enemies. The enemies you can defeat depend on your current strength, requiring you to identify and defeat them in sequence.
The game clears by obtaining either all 12 Zodiac items or three Goddess statues. Though it has a unique learning curve, this masterpiece pioneered the domestic Japanese Action RPG genre and is highly recommended.
