Ill Flos releases for PC via Steam for free on January 30

Japanese solo indie developer Kaito (戒斗) will release Ill Flos for PC via Steam for free. The game will be available right at midnight on January 30 in Japan's time zone (UTC+9).

This game is particularly made with RPG Maker VX Ace. One of the screenshots shows that the additional plugins used in this project include a 3D projection of the world map for air travel.

Kaito also notably self-composed the soundtrack for this game. A separate Steam page for the 59-track original soundtrack has also appeared as additional DLC for the game, though the OST will have a price of ¥800 in Japan.

You can find the official screenshots and descriptions for Ill Flos right below. Even though Kaito has prepared English assets for the Steam page and a seemingly machine-translated description, the actual game is still only slated to be available in Japanese so far.

Story

“ILL FLOS” is a full-length RPG set in a fantasy world featuring the World Tree and magic. It follows the journey of Shaar, a young hunter whose job is to defeat monsters and protect people. Alongside his companions, he sets out to unravel the mystery of Insania, a flower that causes monsters to become violent. Eventually, he uncovers the truth hidden within the world.

Overview

Developed using RPG Maker VXAce, this is a 2D turn-based RPG. It features a system where SP earned by defeating enemies can be freely allocated to acquire skills. A key strategic element is the ability to freely swap party members during combat, expanding tactical possibilities.

While there is only one main ending, multiple sub-events delve into the backgrounds of the colorful cast of companions, allowing players to freely enjoy the story.

Features

All background music (BGM) featured in the game is original, created exclusively for this title. A soundtrack containing every piece of music is also available.

Regarding battles, a unique skill called “Timing Skill” exists. After activating a skill, there is a delay before it can be used again. Both allies and enemies can utilize this mechanic, creating battles where anticipation is key and strategic depth is paramount.

Estimated Playtime

20 hours+

The concept is a well-paced play experience that can be enjoyed bit by bit in your spare time. The game is also designed so that players can experience all content within the game regardless of their playstyle.
