Closed Beta test for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn available today to Founders

Owlcat Games has today launched the closed beta test for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, now available to Founders who have pre-purchased the Miller’s Pack or the Collector’s Edition of the game.

Owlcat Games has also shared a new Mechanics Overview video in which game design director Leonid Rastorguev and lead game designer Grigory Ponomarev explain the scope & mechanics of the beta.

Hayes had a chance to get an early hands-on with the new closed beta, and you can read his impressions, where he states 'Osiris Reborn might have the chops to fill the Mass Effect-sized hole in your life."

The new developer diary video, description, and large screenshot set can be found below, via Owlcat Games. The official website is here.

In case you missed it, Owlcat Games previously revealed the companions that you will meet in The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.

Today, Owlcat Games launched the closed beta for supporters of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players who purchased the Collector’s Edition or Miller’s Pack on the website can now experience thrilling combat, movement in zero-g environments, and life and death on a remote space station as they get to know some of their companions. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn launches on PC and console in Spring 2027.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a story-driven action-RPG set in the universe of the same name, with a focus on companions, player choices, and dynamic third-person combat. As a Pinkwater Security mercenary who survives a catastrophic incident on Eros, players must build a team to fight back against Protogen and their deadly experiments. While the game is set in the same universe as the books and show, it focuses on its own story and characters.

In the closed beta, founders can choose to play as either a female character from the Belt or a male character from Earth, also choosing between specializing in officer or hacker abilities. Accompanied by their openhearted sibling J and supported by veteran mechanic Zafar, players will explore a remote space station belonging to their employer, Pinkwater Security, in the wake of escaping from the catastrophic events on Eros, famously known from the books and TV series.

Throughout the closed beta, players can interact with the station’s inhabitants, experiment with dialogue options and choices, and discover how everyday life on a space station full of mercenaries works. Once the masterminds behind the attack on Eros catch up to them, they’ll be thrown into the combat and experience the game’s upgrade mechanics firsthand.

In the final game, players will also be able to choose Mars as their main character’s background alongside the Belt and Earth, with more specializations and customization available than in the beta.

The beta is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and PlayStation 5 for founders who purchased The Collector’s Edition or Miller’s Pack, and will be running until the game’s launch in Spring 2027. Founder’s packs can be purchased on the official website. Since the beta is a work in progress, performance may vary and won’t reflect the final quality of the game. On consoles, playing on Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 is recommended for the best experience.

Owlcat aims to incorporate valuable player feedback collected from the beta into the final game.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn launches spring 2027 on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, and on console via Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Fans can wishlist the game now.
