Disgaea 1 and 2 Have Landed on PSN

I think it goes without saying that I am a huge tactical RPG fan. Growing up with games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Shining Force 2, and Vanguard Bandits were the source of plenty of entertainment. But it wasn't until Nippon Ichi brought the Disgaea series over to the Western shores that people were able to experience what it means to spend hundreds of hours progressing a character all the to Level 9999 with Laharl and co. in an over-the-top, rollercoaster ride of a game. How in the world anyone manages to do that even with all the free time I had at that age is beyond me. There was definitely something magical there, and the huge amount of appeal in both its charming cast and its highly unusual world (understatement of the century).

With that out of the way, it brings me good pleasure to mention that over the past couple of weeks, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories were finally both released on the Sony PSN in North America as part of the PS2 Classics line. Now you too can experience what it's like experiencing some of the deepest, content-rich tactical RPGs in the genre's history for a great price of $9.99 a pop. Considering the fact that the Item World featured in Disgaea alone can suck entire generations of hours from a player, that's not too shabby. They both join La Pucelle Tactics and GrimGrimoire on the shop. One can only hope that the powers that be will also consider bringing Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom over as well.
