Kitase: Final Fantasy XV "quite far" in development

The development of Final Fantasy XV is "quite far" in, Yoshinori Kitase has said, shedding some new light on the game for the first time in a while.

The series producer, speaking to Videogamer as part of a Lightning Returns press tour in London, has said the game has been given a "high priorty" order - surprise - by Square Enix.

"We can't give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it's not as if it's in competition with Kingdom Hearts 3 for resources or anything like that," he said. "It's quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority within the company itself, but that doesn't mean Kingdom Hearts isn't."

Kitase's remarks could quelm fears that XV's development is behind that of Kingdom Hearts III. Not a lot has been seen on it since its E3 re-reveal/renaming from Versus XIII besides a fleeting few seconds of new footage in its TGS trailer, whilst we've already had new footage of KH3 since its E3 reveal last year.

Kitase also spoke at length about the tech capabilities of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and how those will implicate future Final Fantasy instalments, teasing bigger battles and parties and further hinting future games could actually adapt battle systems in past games rather than work on new systems.

Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III have no dates, but will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
