Etrian Odyssey X features a world map where labyrinths, events, item collection spots, and F.O.E.s can appear as icons. Some labyrinths are optional areas that do not need to be completed in order to progress through the game, but can still be explored for loot, experience, or challenge. Some of these small labyrinths include the Unexplored Water Source and Buried Castle Ruins.

Sometimes, the item collection areas on the world map will be protected by an F.O.E. monster, which must be vanquished before the items can be gathered. As is usual with F.O.E.s in Etrian Odyssey, sometimes these creatures might be too tough to take on right away, and you might have to come back when you have powered up a bit in order to beat them.

Additionally, various NPCs may temporarily go together with you as you explore these dungeons, and may give pieces of advice while they're at it. Some NPCs may offer other bonuses, such as Birgitta, who can heal the party after battle.

Guild cards, as seen in other 3DS Etrian Odyssey titles, will also make a return in Etrian Odyssey X. These guild cards can be shared with not only with Streetpass but also via a QR code. You can now change the guild card background & window colors, and you can now have up to 255 guild cards instead of just 40.

Atlus also revealed the last two bonus guest character illustrations that are included with first-print copies of Etrian Odyssey X in Japan. Shirow Miwa offers his take on the Night Seeker class, and Shigenori Soejima's contribution is a cameo appearance from Project Re Fantasy.

While the contributing artists have been known since Etrian Odyssey X's announcement, we finally have the full slate of bonus artwork that will be included as a first-print bonus DLC. We also don't know much about Project Re Fantasy or the mysterious red-headed warrior, but it's a cool cameo nonetheless.
