Persona 5 Royal first full trailer and screenshots, coming westward in 2020

Following a teaser last month, Atlus has formally revealed Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced re-release of Persona 5 that introduces new characters, new events, and other additions. The game is slated to launch in Japan this year on October 31, 2019.

Atlus USA has also confirmed that Persona 5 Royal will release in the west in 2020. The Japanese website can be found here and an English teaser site here.

IRVINE, Calif. - April 24, 2019 - Two years ago, the Phantom Thieves stole the hearts of millions of fans around the world. Now, they're getting ready to make their triumphant return in Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced release of ATLUS's acclaimed JRPG Persona 5.

Just announced at the Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019 concert in Tokyo, Persona 5 Royal expands on the extraordinary world of Persona 5,introducing a host of new characters, gameplay features, and diving deeper into the personal lives, as well as the trials and tribulations, of the enigmatic (and exceedingly-stylish) Phantom Thieves. Players will even get to experience an all-new third semester at Shujin Academy that's never been seen before!

The trailer that debuted at the show is now available on the official ATLUS YouTube channel (Japanese only), and a teaser for the Western release is available on the Atlus USA channel.

Below is an overview of the new characters and new content found in Persona 5 Royal.

Kasumi Yoshizawa (voiced in Japanese by Sora Amamiya)
A pretty girl who entered Shujin Academy the same spring the hero transferred in. She has superior grades as a rhythmic gymnastic athlete from junior high school, and even the Shujin Academy is anticipating her future prospects.

Takuto Maruki (voiced in Japanese by Satoshi Hino)
A new confidant for the Phantom Thieves. A part-time school counselor who was appointed after an incident involving a certain teacher in Shujin Academy occurred in April. He is popular among students because he is a good listener and also gives accurate pieces of advice. His arcana is The Consultant.

Besides the new content involving these new characters, Persona 5 The Royal will also add the following:

  • A 3rd school semester not told in the original Persona 5
  • New locations including Kichijoji, as well as new dating spots
  • Addition of the darts machine DARTSLIVE3 as a real-life collaboration. The hero can invite friends to play darts here after school
  • New events involving Caroline and Justine, from going outside together to strange things in the prison cell
  • SNS can now have photo uploads
  • A new type of powerful enemies
  • New mysterious treasures appearing in palaces
  • Coop Assist command feature to help daily life
  • Several new songs from Shoji Meguro; Vocal songs such as the opening, ending, and battle songs are still sung by Lyn
  • PlayStation 4 Pro enhanced graphics support
