The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is getting a sequel

At the end of todays E3 2019 Nintendo Direct, after having already shown footage for this year's Link's Awakening remake, Nintendo surprised pretty much all of us by showing whats next in store for the Zelda series past that -- turns out its a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It looks like its a direct sequel at that, seeming to feature the same Zelda and Link from the 2017 hit, from all appearances.

Check out the spooky first teaser below, showcasing both Link and Zelda exploring a dark underground area and encountering an enigmatic zombie-like creature radiating with some sort of green magic.

While Zelda stories have always been connected in one way or another, some directly and others less so, this looks like it could be shaping up to be the first truly direct sequel of a Zelda game on the same console since Majora's Mask (even Phantom Hourglass to Spirit Track featured a 100-year gap.) As much of a splash that Breath of the Wild made at the Switch's debut, it seems like the perfect chance to revisit that strategy.
