Square: Keep your FF13 saves for FF13-2

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Director and Producer Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase have hinted that fans should hold onto their Final Fantasy XIII save games in order to recieve a bonus in the final game.

Speaking to Japanese magazine and website Famitsu, Kitase and Toriyama said that they were looking into the prospect of having FF13 veterans recieve some sort of special reward if FF13-2 detects a save game from the original intact when launched. Presumably it'd be looking to see if you ever beat the original game or not, and depending on how the save file is built it could also read your character level and how many hunting marks you've completed.

In addition to talking about the save games, Toriyama and Kitase also went into detail about some other aspects of FF13-2. Notably,  the pair said that the game wouldn't have the Japanese pop music and dancing featured in Final Fantasy X-2. Kitase suggested the game would have a 'serious' direction and would be 'dark' and 'mysterious' in tone. That'll please some and sadden others, we think.

They also explain that while Lightning has travelled to a new area of the world which features a more fantasy-themed style in terms of armor, weapons and so on, the original worlds of Final Fantasy XIII will make an appearance in the game somehow, as will members of the original cast.

Lightning will have a very specific goal and mission in this game, and will spend less time on the run unlike FF13 and more time focused on a specific goal. In part, the project began production because Toriyama and the staff of FF13 wanted to explore the character of Lightning specifically further.

We'll bring you more on FF13-2, as always, as it's released. Don't forget you can see the first trailer, screenshots and first pieces of artwork all over in the Media Vault.
