Pokemon Legends Arceus: Cleffa Location & how to evolve to Clefable

Cleffa is another one of the 'Baby Pokemon' featured in Pokemon Legends Arceus - and like those other cute little critters, will probably end up one of the last you need in order to finish your Pokedex. That's because, honestly, finding the baby Pokemon is a bit of a pain, as they're well-hidden, rare spawns.

On this page we detail how to get Cleffa by detailing the best Cleffa location to try to spawn one - plus some tips to try to get them to spawn. Finding one will require a bit of luck and some planning, but they's relatively straightforward to search for. If you're struggling to find the other kids, too, we've got some tips for how to find Bonsly and Munchlax as well.

Where to get Cleffa in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Cleffa can be found at the Fabled Spring in the Coronet Highlands, during the night. This is also the same spot where Clefairy spawns, which means in the spawn table you'll be battling against Clefairy and even Clefable for a Cleffa to appear. When you arrive, you'll inevitably find plenty of Clefairy, an Alpha Clefable, and if you're lucky - a Cleffa or two, walking about. Your strategy for finding a Cleffa remains similar to our strategy for every other Baby Pokemon in the game:

Cleffa's spawn location, at the Fabled Spring
A Cleffa, in its natural habitat at the Fabled Spring
  • Regardless of what spawns there, first of all, do a sweep of the area. This means either knocking out or catching every Pokemon that isn't a Cleffa. This will force Pokemon Legends Arceus to re-roll a new set of Pokemon for the location, in this case the Fabled Spring.
  • Next up, go back to base camp and sleep until night. This advances to the next day, and also forces the world to repopulate the Pokemon you knocked our or caught. This means that there's a renewed chance that a Cleffa will spawn at the Fabled Spring. You want night time, of course, because that's when Cleffa spawns.
  • Rinse and repeat. If resting to change the time of day is no longer spawning Pokemon at the Fabled Spring, return to the village so that you can start the whole farming process over anew.

With any luck, you'll be able to find a Cleffa before too long. Now you'll just have to figure out how to evolve it - thankfully, that's also rather straightforward.

How to evolve Cleffa to Clefairy and Clefable

Truthfully, you'd be better suited skipping evolving a Cleffa to a Clefairy, seeing as how you've likely just caught some while in the process of grabbing a Cleffa. If you really want to evolve a Clefable from the start, you'll find that Cleffa is a Pokemon that evolves based on its friendship values. Max it out, and you'll have a Clefairy!

Now, to evolve a Clefairy to a Clefable, you'll need a Moon Stone. Thankfully, you have plenty of options here - for one, you can find them in the Item Exchange, and there's a chance to dig them up with Ursaluna. Simply use one on a Clefairy, and you'll be one step closer to finishing your Pokedex!

However, it's worth remembering that an Alpha Clefable is a common spawn at the Fabled Spring, where we advise you to catch Cleffa - so really, better than spending resources on the Moon Stone, you can just catch that one once you're strong enough. This skips the need to get the Moon Stone at all, as Clefable is the only Pokemon in the game to require that Evolution method.

If you're still on the lookout for some of the game's other rare Pokemon, we can help. We've got advice on getting your own of some of the story Pokemon like Hisuian Growlithe & Arcanine, Hisuian Voltorb & Electrode, Hisuian Lilligant, Ursaluna, Zorua and Zoroark, and more - just check out our Pokemon Legends Arceus guide hub.
