Tales of Vesperia Costume and Title Guide: every single title available in the Definitive Edition

As is typical of games of the series, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition is chock-full of optional costumes and titles to earn throughout the game. Many of these are tied to completing sidequests or arena battles, while many others are given as free DLC available to use from the outset of the story. The PlayStation 3 version of Vesperia added several new titles, some for pre-orders and others for completing new quests, so this is the first time many of these are available in an English release of the game.

We've gathered details, images, unlock requirements, and English names for these costumes and titles, including those that aren't attached to a costume. This includes the new (to us) characters of Flynn and Patty as well. Just in case, we've got a page detailing how to unlock the DLC costumes.

    Yuri 

    Costume Titles

    Tales-of-Vesperia_Yuri_Certified_Soldier.png

    Certified Soldier: Talk to Drake in Aurnion after obtaining Estelle's 'Noble Princess' title. See ‘Noble Princess’ for the events.

    Tales-of-Vesperia_Yuri_Dark_Enforcer.png

    Dark Enforcer: Involves a multi-part subquest that spans the whole game. And it's not available as DLC, so you have to get this the hard way:

    • Sleep at the inn when first in Capua Torim. You may have to do some of the story events here first, sleep until you trigger the scene. 

    • Head to Zaphias after getting the Fiertia, talk to Shel in the Noble quarter twice and a woman on a bench to learn Tiger Blade.  

    • Before leaving for the Weasand of Cados after Nordipolica, talk to the couple at the south end of town, then rest at the inn. You'll learn Shining Eagle.

    • After getting Ba'ul, head to the lake near Mantaic and talk to the person there, then rest at the inn.

    • After getting the party back following the events at Zaude (including fetching Raven and Karol from Dahngrest), head to Zaphias's Noble Quarter.

    • Return again after creating Undine. You'll actually earn the title here.

    • Near the end of the game, there's one optional scene involving the woman from before, return after the events at Aurnion.

    True Knight: Complete all Secret Missions in one playthrough, then rest at the inn in Aurnion.

    Improvisionist: After the final dungeon Tarqaron appears, talk to the man at the far west of the gym in Nam Cobanda.

    Tank Top Lover: After the events of Zaude, head to the hot springs to the southeast of Nam Cobanda. Pay 300,000 gold, then 600,000 gold, then return one more time late in the game.

    Aloha Boy: Head to Yormgen and talk to the butler. Then open the first chest you see when entering The Blade Drifts of Zopheir from the west. Then return to the butler.

    Returning Swordsman: Finish the 200-Man Melee as Yuri. This title also alters Wolf Strike into Demon Attack.

    Non-costume Titles

    Downtown Boy: Yuri's default title.

    Vigilante: Earned during the story.

    Survivor: Earned during the story.

    Hope of the Town: Talk to Ted in the Lower Quarter at the end of the game before the final dungeon.

    Commoner Chef: Yuri's cooking title. Master all the recipes, including the character specific ones, and then enter the competition at the Bistro Black Hole in western Dahngrest. It doesn't matter who enters the competition, all party members will get a title upon completion.

    Kingdom Celeb: Earned as part of the ‘Dark Enforcer’ subquest.

    Recollection Guardian: After the events at Zaude, talk to the man in the shop at Dahngrest, then grab the item to his right. Then head to the hot springs and talk to the man at the upper right. Finally, gather all the statues, then return to the man at the hot springs.

    • Three from the vending machines near the man above.

    • Talk to Hanks in the Lower Quarter (Flynn must be in the party).

    • Six from the capsule machines at Nam Cobanda. One from the 500 chip capsules, two from each 100 and 50 chip machines, and one from the 10 chip machines.

    Dark Lion: Finish the 200-Man Melee as Yuri. You won’t unlock this arena level until after clearing the Labyrinth of Memories.

    Treasure Hunter: Finish the ‘Recollection Guardian’ above, and then talk to the guy standing in front of Nam Cobanda after gathering 86% of the game’s treasure chests. A good time to check for this would be after gathering all the chests in Tarqaron.

    Basic Swordsman: Another default title.

    Skilled Swordsman: Obtained at Level 20.

    Master Swordsman: Obtained at Level 60.

    Legendary Swordsman: Obtained at Level 100.

    Beginner Combo User: Complete a 10 hit combo.

    Advanced Combo User: Complete a 30 hit combo.

    Combo Master: Complete a 100 hit combo.

    King of Combos: Complete a 150 hit combo.

    Fatal Striker: Perform 100 Fatal Strikes as Yuri.

    Berserker: Fight 255 battles on "Hard" difficulty  (or "Unknown" in EX New Game).

    Item Hater: Defeat Barbos without using items up until that point, then watch the skit, or watch the same skit in EX New Game.

    Estelle

    Costume Titles

    Noble Princess: This non-costume title requires completing several small mini events throughout the game, and is missable:

    • In Heliord, talk to Drake at the blastia.

    • Find Drake to the north in Nordopolica.

    • After the death of the Don, enter Dahngrest’s tavern.

    • After the events at Zaude, go to Capua Torim dock for a scene. Then give a woman near the slides 500,000 Gald.

    • Find Drake at Aurnion near the end of the game for ‘Worldly Adventurer’.

    Curious Princess: Sleep at the Wandering Traveler after visiting every location, including the two post-game dungeons.

    Cordon Bleu: See ‘Commoner Chef’.

    Fairy Tale Weaver: You’ll get this title by returning to Halure’s tree at three points in the game.

    • After the events at Ehmead Hill.

    • After getting the Fiertia.

    • After creating Undine.

    Itemania: Complete the Collector's Book then speak to a researcher in Halure. You’ll also need to see a scene in Aspio after you reach the 50% mark.

    Battle Nightingale: Finish the 200-Man Melee as Estelle

    Worldly Adventurer: Talk to Drake in Aurnion after obtaining the ‘Noble Princess’ title.

    Healer: Another default title.

    Cleric: Obtained at Level 20.

    Priestess: Obtained at Level 60.

    High Priestess: Obtained at Level 100.

    Fatal Angel: Perform 100 Fatal Strikes as Estelle.

    Best Friends: After obtaining the Fiertia, go to Zaphias finish the cat chasing sub-event starting in the lower quarter. Then after the events at Zaude, go to Helioid’s blastia pillar. Finally, rest at Yuri’s room in the lower quarter.

    Repede

    Nanny: Following the events at Zaude, head to Heliord and speak to kids at the right entrance, then finish an easy fight.

    Ultimate Dog Warrior: After getting ‘Tough Hound’, sleep at the Wandering Traveler twice.

    Dog Warrior: Another default title.

    Dog Knight: Obtained at Level 20.

    Top Dog: Obtained at Level 60.

    Nirvana Dog: Obtained at Level 100.

    Big Bad Bandit: Steal 100 times with Thievery

    Double Identity: Obtained at Level 60.

    Super Star: Obtained at Level 100.
