Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave New Game+ Guide - What carries over and how the Replay Function Works

If you are on this page, you are probably wondering, "How does New Game+ work in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave?" This page is to help you understand how the game carries over content into new routes, and will also help you understand what is reset, what progresses, and how best to understand replaying Fortune's Weave.

While Fortune's Weave does not explicitly have anything called "New Game+", it does have a function called Replay. This allows you to redo individual parts of the game. The way this works can be a little bit tricky, so please read this page carefully.

The Structure of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

Before going into Replay details, it's best to understand how the game is structured. There are three "Parts" to Fortune's Weave, not counting the quick Prologue section.

  1. Part I: The first part is the Heroic Games. Here, there are four paths you can access from the Obelisk Chamber, one for each of the game's main characters: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda. While these paths have some similarities, they are all unique, and each character has access to different characters and quests. This section is 12 chapters long for each protagonist.
  2. Part II: This is the War Arc, accessed from the Strife Obelisk in the Obelisk Chamber. Each of the four protagonists goes through the War Arc separately, but the content of each arc is essentially identical, with only small adjustments to some cutscenes depending on your chosen protagonist. This section is 6 chapters long, and it does not have any Free Time or World Map exploration.
  3. Part III: This is the Salvation Arc, accessed through the Door of Destiny in the Obelisk Chamber. Only characters that have completed their War Arc can take part in the Salvation Arc. This means that if you want all characters to participate in the Salvation Arc, you will need to complete the War Arc four times. This section is 6 chapters long, but it does include Free Time and World Map exploration.

Note: The game does give you a method to 'skip' the War Arc for subsequent characters, although you won't get as much benefit out of it (like EXP) if you completed it normally.

How Replays Work in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

Anyways, back to how Replays work.

After completing any one of the Part I Paths, you'll be able to select an option to "Replay from Any Chapter". You can do this even before you start Part II, or any other Part I Path. How this works is that the game has created a series of 'bookmarks' to mark your progress at the beginning of each chapter of the Path you've completed. The game will even show you a timestamp of when that 'bookmark' was last updated. While the game doesn't call it a 'bookmark', I think that's the best way to understand how loading into these replays works.

If you choose to replay any Chapter in a Part I Path, the game will load to that chosen point as it was when you were there the first time. Any progress made in that chapter or any following chapter is not included (with the exception of Support Levels, Bless Level at temples, Notable Deeds &Boons of Salvation). However, note that the bookmarks for later chapters are still in place and will not be removed.

That means if you decide to Replay Leda Path Chapter 6, your Chapter 7, 8, 9, 10, etc bookmarks are still in place. You did not 'rewind' to Chapter 6, you just opened the Chapter 6 bookmark.

If you return to the Obelisk Chamber from any Chapter during a replay, you can return to the point mid-Chapter that you left from, unless you decide to load a bookmark from a different Chapter.

Now, if you Replay through Leda Chapter 6 and return to Chapter 7, your Leda Chapter 7 bookmark will be overwritten with the new one. This is the only way to overwrite a bookmark: by replaying the Chapter before it.

Now you may be wondering, does anything carry over to a replay? If you replay any Chapter from Chapter 2 to Chapter 12, the answer is 'No.' The game will load exactly as it was when the bookmark was created. However, if you want to carry over some progress into a replay, there's an exception to this rule.

There is a big exception to the bookmark rules. That is, if you Replay a Path from Chapter 1 — the very beginning. Here, the game WILL 'import' progress back into your route. That means map exploration and Subquest completion WILL be carried over into your replay. Let's say you want to replay Leda's Path a second time. If you start at Chapter 1, the game doesn't act as if you are playing the route for the very first time. Your explored map from your first playthrough will already be explored, and your Subquest completion will be tracked.

What carries over in a replay (as long as you replay from Chapter 1):

  • Map exploration
  • Subquest completion
  • Other 'Global' progress like Support Levels and Notable Deeds

That means, if you play Leda's Path and spend a bunch of time exploring the map, if you Replay Leda's Path, you don't need to spend so much time exploring the map again.

Part I Chapter 12 replay also has a unique feature. If you Replay Chapter 12 (of any Part I Path), the game will 'update' the path being imported into that protagonist's subsequent Part II: War Arc. So, let's say you wanted to adjust Leda's party before moving on to her Part II. You can Replay Part I: Chapter 12, make whatever adjustments desired (whether that's recruited characters, classes, levels, etc), and finish her Part I a second time. This will update her starting point for Part II.

All of this means is that, unless you want to start from scratch, you'll never need to make a new save file in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.

This also means it is best to play a single Part I Path to completion before starting a second Part I Path, since you'll be able to carry some progress into a second path, only if the first one has been finished.

Pay attention to the diamond pips at the bottom of the screen.

The game actually helps you out slightly in understanding your Chapter bookmarks. On the Replay screen, look at the diamond-shaped pips at the bottom. The way these are connected indicates which bookmarks are 'connected' to each other.

Here on this screen, I did the following:

  1. I played through Leda's Path to completion, all 12 chapters.
  2. I replayed Chapter 4 and reached Chapter 5. This created a new pip for Chapter 5.
  3. I replayed Chapters 1, 2, and 3. This created new pips for Chapters 1-4

As you can see. Pips 1-4 are connected, since that was a connected playthrough. Pips 6-12 are connected, since that was my original playthrough. Pip 5 is separated, because it's not connected to my original playthrough nor my most recent replay of Chapter 1-4.

Part II and Part III can also be replayed in this chapter-bookmark format, but as long as you understand how it works for Part I replays, the latter parts are much simpler in comparison.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave - Anything after the final credits?

It's also worth noting that, at the final Part III credits of the game, once everything is said and done, you can load back into your Clear Save in the final section of the game before you faced the final boss. There is no "New Game+", but you are given a new icon on your save menu, and you can now replay any part of the game at will, from Part I all the way to the end. If you wanted to try out new units, or obtain more Support conversations, or just play again, you can do that.

Also, on a Clear Save, you unlock two more additional scenes if you replay the game's Prologue. These scenes give a little bit more insight into Fortuna's plan, now that you have the full game context to understand it. If you were wondering how to get those missing Events shown at the Shrine of Causality menu, this is how.
