Mass Effect series sells over 7 million copies

More and more magazine previews of Mass Effect 3 are popping up now Game Informer's exclusivity period is wearing off, and the latest one in PS3M has Bioware talking about the series sales.

Bioware reveal to the magazine that despite the fact that only one of the games has appeared on the Playstation 3, the system the magazine covers, the series has sold over 7 million copies since its birth in 2007.

That number should span six titles - Mass Effect on Xbox 360 and PC, Mass Effect 2 on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 and also the usually-overlooked Mass Effect Galaxy spin-off for iPhone. That won't have sold very much, mind.

These numbers are pretty impressive for a newly established franchise and mean that Mass Effect 3 is sure to push the series past the 10 million units mark, especially with a simultaneous launch on all three platforms this time around. The adventures in the Mass Effect universe are likely to continue thanks to sales, but the adventures of Shepard in particular will come to a close after Mass Effect 3.
