Tales of Symphonia tops series worldwide sales ranking; plus Japan, North America, and Europe regional breakdown

As part of an ongoing celebration of the series' 25th anniversary, the official 'Tales of' Youtube channel has revealed the all-time sales rankings for the whole series thus far. With the presented data collated by Gamestalk, the video also goes into details about the regional breakdown in the series, showing some potentially surprising differences between the North Americam, European, and Japan/Asian regions.

Worldwide Total Sales Ranking

Tales of Symphonia, thanks in large part to its strong North American sales success, ends up edging out Vesperia for the top slot in the global list-to-date. Tales of Destiny ends up in third place due to its strong support in Japan.

1st Place: Tales of Symphonia – 2.4 Million

2nd Place: Tales of Vesperia – 2.37 Million

3rd Place: Tales of Destiny – 1.72 Million

  1. Tales of Zestiria
  2. Tales of Berseria
  3. Tales of Phantasia
  4. Tales of the Abyss
  5. Tales of Eternia
  6. Tales of Xillia
  7. Tales of Destiny 2

Japan / Asia Sales Ranking

Japan's list looks a bit different compared with the global list, with Vesperia reaching only 5th and Symphonia under that at 7th. Instead, the series' first entry Phantasia slides in at 2nd, with Eternia (awkwardly named Tales of Destiny II in North America) taking 3rd. Notably, Tales of Destiny 2, which never released outside of Asia, just misses out on Japan's top three. The original Tales of Destiny takes the top slot.

First Place: Tales of Destiny – 1.63 Million

Second Place: Tales of Phantasia – 1.33 Million

Third Place: Tales of Eternia – 1.2 Million

  1. Tales of Destiny 2
  2. Tales of Vesperia
  3. Tales of the Abyss
  4. Tales of Symphonia
  5. Tales of Rebirth
  6. Tales of Xillia
  7. Tales of Graces

North America Sales Ranking

The North American list looks somewhat similar to the global list, with Symphonia again winning out with a comfortable lead over Vesperia. Sliding in at third place is 2015's Tales of Zestiria, which doesn't even rank on the Japan / Asia list. Also showing up for the first time is Symphonia's sequel, Dawn of the New World (Knight of Ratatosk in Japan) -- presumably due to Symphonia's North American success. Notably, Tales of Destiny is absent here.

First Place: Tales of Symphonia – 940,000

Second Place: Tales of Vesperia – 810,000

Third Place: Tales of Zestiria – 600,000

  1. Tales of Berseria
  2. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (with Tales of Symphonia Chronicles)
  3. Tales of Xillia
  4. Tales of the Abyss
  5. Tales of Graces
  6. Tales of Xillia 2
  7. Tales of Hearts

European Sales Ranking

In a somewhat surprising upset, Tales of Zestiria manages to take the top slot in Europe, edging out Symphonia by a mere 1,000 units, possibly due to having the first PC release of the series? Who's to say.

First Place: Tales of Zestiria – 481,000

Second Place: Tales of Symphonia – 480,000

Third Place: Tales of Vesperia – 410,000

  1. Tales of Berseria
  2. Tales of Xillia
  3. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (with Tales of Symphonia Chronicles)
  4. Tales of Graces
  5. Tales of Xillia 2
  6. Tales of Eternia
  7. Tales of the Abyss

The 'Tales of' series hasn't seen a major release since 2016's Tales of Berseria, though the in-development Tales of Arise did resurface earlier this month, with publisher Bandai Namco stating more information will be inbound later this year.
