Dreamscaper Comes Out of Early Access on August 12, 2021

Afterburner Studios finally has a launch date for Dreamscaper, an action RPG-roguelike that has been in Steam Early Access for nearly a year. During the Freedom Games Showcase, the team showed off a launch trailer with colorful, dreamy settings and slick combat along with the launch announcement. The game comes out of Early Access on August 12.

Dreamscaper takes advantage of RPG and simulator elements to tell the story of Cassidy, a woman battling “inner demons” -- probably depression. She has a lucid dreaming ability that allows her to fight foes within the shifting landscapes of her dreams. During the day, she maneuvers everyday life and builds bonds with others in the real world.

Afterburner Studios, a San Fransisco-based team, is made up of “three veteran game developers gone rogue.” The indie studio raised over $50,000 for Dreamscaper as a Kickstarter project, which was more than double the team’s starting goal. Thanks to generous backers, the team was able to incorporate additional content and features such as a boss named Negativity based on Cassidy’s emotional state, and leaderboards based on certain challenges. As per its most recent update, Afterburner Studios confirmed that Dreamscaper would release on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch.

RPG Site previewed Dreamscaper in a Casual Mode RPG Site episode back in August 2020 after it went into Early Access. For a sneak peek, check out our playthrough or look into the Alpha demo yourself for free.
