Nintendo's Q2 FY2022 results gives us sales numbers for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and more

Nintendo has posted its financial results [PDF] for the second quarter of the fiscal year ending in March 2022, giving us some sales numbers for both newly released titles as well as lifetime sales updates for longstanding Nintendo Switch games.

The most notable new sales number we get this quarter is that for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, which released on July 16 worldwide. As of September 30, the game has sold 3.60 million units. As a point of comparison, the original release of Skyward Sword for Nintendo Wii sold 3.52 million within its launch year in FY2012 [PDF].

As usual, there's always quite a bit to sift through if you want information on all of Nintendo's catalog, but here at RPG Site, we'll focus on the RPG (or related) sales data. Here are the sales updates compared to one quarter ago for some of the biggest RPG-related games on Nintendo Switch.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 24.13 million (up from 23.20 million)

  • Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield: 22.64 million (up from 21.85 million)

  • Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee: 13.83 million (up from 13.57 million)

  • Ring Fit Adventure: 12.21 million (up from 11.26 million)

  • New Pokemon Snap: 2.19 million (up from 2.07 million, does not include JP sales as it was published by The Pokemon Company in the region)

  • Miitopia: 1.37 million (up from 1.04 million)

Nintendo's hardware and software sales are down YoY, though that is largely due to Animal Crossing: New Horizons selling extremely well in FY2021, to say the least. With Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl releasing later this month, it'll be interesting to see how their launch sales compare to recently released Pokemon titles when Q3 FY2022 results land early next year.
