Shin Megami Tensei V surpasses 800,000 units sold worldwide

Atlus has revealed that Shin Megami Tensei V has surpassed 800,000 units sold worldwide since its launch in November 2021. The news comes from Atlus' New Years' message in Famitsu.

To put that number into some context, the game's predecessor - Shin Megami Tensei IV - had sold 600,000 units worldwide as of July 2015, noting that was about two years after its launch in Japan in North America (with the European release delayed until 2014).

The NPD Group's Mat Piscatella also gives some more context regarding the RPG's North American sales in a December NPD report. “Shin Megami Tensei V achieved the highest launch month dollar sales of any Shin Megami Tensei title in history,” said Piscatella. “Shin Megami Tensei V ranked as the 16th best-selling game of November 2021 while also ranking 6th on Nintendo platforms.”

While Shin Megami Tensei V has been treated as a Nintendo Switch exclusive since its original announcement, a recent datamine gives some indication that the game might also be planned for PlayStation 4 & PC. Additionally, Shin Megami Tensei V appeared in last year's GeForce Now leak, which may also indicate plans for a PC release. However, no other console announcement is yet official from Atlus.

Atlus' message, which we've shared below, also promotes some upcoming ports in 2022 with Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, as well as a new project that is currently unannounced.

Happy New Year! In November 2021, Shin Megami Tensei V was released simultaneously around the world and got off to a good start, selling over 800,000 units in total. Thank you very much for your support and patronage. 2022 will open with the remastered version of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax in March and the release of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for Nintendo Switch in April. We are also preparing a surprising new title that has not yet been announced. Additionally, the 25th anniversary of Persona, which has been underway since last year, will enter the next phase. Please look forward to it!
