Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent journeys to North America and Europe on July 27

Square Enix has shared that the English release of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is coming in summer 2022 through a brief new trailer informing people that they can pre-register to be notified when the game goes live. In the App Store page for Octopath Traveler: CotC, its description was updated and revealed that the title "will be playable starting from July 27, 2022 (UTC)." The Octopath mobile entry will also be available on Google Play for Android devices.

Octopath Traveler: CotC is the follow-up to 2018's Octopath Traveler. The events that transpire in CotC occur before the original game. When CotC was initially unveiled in March 2019, it shared that its narrative structure would be vastly different from the original game. Instead of players choosing between eight protagonists, they now lead a group of heroes together down one of three storylines that are tied to antagonists. The three "wealth, power, and fame" plotlines are charactertized by how that specifc route's villain is portrayed.

It was originally released in Japan on October 28, 2020. Throughout the title's lifespan, it has gradually added familiar faces from Octopath Traveler such as Primrose, Tressa, and Therion. There have been crossover collaboration events with the Bravely Default series and NieR Automata adding several characters from those games into CotC. The English release will most likely see these down the line as well.

Aside from the alterations to its narrative structure, Champions of the Continent now allow players to bring 8 characters simultaneously. Half of them actively participate directly in battle, but can switch to a character they are paired to.
