Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Ver.2 update arrives on June 7

At the April 2023 NGS Headline program, Sega revealed more details about the upcoming major "Ultra Evolution" update for Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. The company has confirmed that this Ver.2 update will arrive on June 7. It will add more features other than the previously revealed Creative Space.

One of the new features that will be added in this update is the Cel Shading option. Players will be able to further modify the outline and shadow sliders with the new shader. There will also be new Portable Holograms that people can place temporarily on towns and fields for player interaction purposes. In addition, this update will bring in a new type of enemies to existing fields, in a similar way Sega added the Falspawns to the base PSO2.

The highlighted Creative Space feature also has had more of its information divulged in the program. It will come with a Connect System that lets users set object reactions based on player movements or interactions with other objects. By using this feature, players will be able to create not only static gathering places but also interactive puzzles or racing fields. Sega will also add a new currency called Genesis Points, which users will primarily spend to obtain the building materials. Some of these items will also appear through the game's gacha-esque Scratch Tickets.

Sega has uploaded a standalone video of the Ver.2 update's teaser trailer, and you can find it right below. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is available worldwide on PC and PlayStation 4. It also has a Nintendo Switch cloud version in Japan, as well as Xbox One and Series X|S versions elsewhere worldwide. Sega will reveal even more features in the Ver.2 Update at next month's program on May 30.
