D4 Enterprise has revealed that they will port Xtalsoft's 1984 PC-8801 RPG title Mugen no Shinzou—which can also be translated to Heart of Dreams—to Nintendo Switch on June 5 with a price tag of $6.49. The company has prepared a link on the North American Nintendo eShop, but it is not actually up yet, so it is expected to go live on the specified release date.

For the record, the company had earlier ported the same version to Windows 10 & 11 PC via Project EGG, and that port is available for free. Xtalsoft would later turn Heart of Dreams into a trilogy, with the second entry released in 1985 and the third one concluding in 1990.

You can watch the gameplay trailer for Heart of Dreams based on the earlier Windows PC port right below. Screenshots of the Switch port and description for the game are also available below that.

Having blasphemed against the gods at the moment of death, the protagonist is cast into the terrifying Mugen Realm. Now, the journey to escape from the Mugen Realm begins...

This world is the "Mugen Realm."
Its divine name is unknown to me; I name it as I see it.
Fallen here, I've learned my sins.
I am a defrocked monk.
For me, this realm is endless purgatory.
Thus, I write for those who follow.

This game is a role-playing game released by Crystal Soft in Japan in 1984. Players take on the role of a hero cast into the Mugen Realm—a place neither heaven nor hell—on a quest to find the "Mugen no Shinzou" and escape. The adventure has a time limit, and the game ends if you exceed 30,000 in-game days.

The game alternates between a top-down view for field exploration and a first-person perspective in dungeons, where random encounters trigger battles with monsters, played out in a turn-based command selection format.

In addition to the time limit, progress in the adventure is paused rather than saved, making it relatively challenging. At the time, this game was known as a serious RPG, and it’s a recommended pick for anyone looking for a classic, rewarding retro RPG experience.
