Darkest Dungeon II: Secrets of the Coven free update is now available on Nintendo Switch and Xbox

Darkest Dungeon II from Red Hook Studios has gotten its Secrets of the Coven free update on Nintendo Switch and Xbox following the update launching on PC and PlayStation platforms.

The second Kingdoms module, Secrets of the Coven, debuted earlier in the month on PlayStation already, and it is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch bringing a new Kingdoms quest, enemy faction, new mechanics, items, features, and much more. Alongside this update, Red Hook Studios has also released an infographic image showcasing everything leading up to today and the future for the game.

Darkest Dungeon II is now available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The Darkest Dungeon II: Anniversary Edition physical release will launch in Q4 2025.

Red Hook Studios, the creators of Darkest Dungeon, are proud to bring Secrets of the Coven, the second of three Kingdoms game mode adventure modules for Darkest Dungeon II, to Nintendo Switch and Xbox today. Players will quest to uncover and eradicate the mysterious Coven before their subversive influence culminates in the downfall of their Kingdom.

Secrets of the Coven is a free update that adds a new Kingdoms quest, enemy faction, new mechanics & items, as well as a number of community-requested Kingdoms features, including inn storage, item selling, and more! The update has previously been released on Steam for PC and Mac in April as well as on PlayStation earlier this month.

“Secrets of the Coven is strikingly different to the initial Kingdoms offering, Hunger of the Beast Clan. The pacing, mechanics, and quest flow all have a remarkably distinct feel, to say nothing of the enemy faction itself. Our team has pushed into new and exciting territory with this one, and we’re eagerly awaiting our players reactions!” -Chris Bourassa, Creative Director

Kingdoms is a free game mode that introduces a fresh, reimagined structure alongside three adventure modules—starting with Hunger of the Beast Clan and now followed by Secrets of the Coven. Unlike the original Confessions mode, Kingdoms tasks players with defending the realm and a network of inns against powerful new enemy factions, including the ravenous beastmen and duplicitous coven. One more adventure module is planned for release in 2025.

Earlier this month Red Hook Studios celebrated the two year anniversary of Darkest Dungeon II’s 1.0 release. In the past year the team was proud to launch the game on Mac and console, adding mod support, introducing the brand new game mode Kingdoms and launching the Inhuman Bondage DLC. The game is still set to receive a significant influx of new content and features, including the highly anticipated third Kingdoms module, enhanced modding capabilities, hero origin skins, comprehensive hero reworks, and much more.

Besides Kingdoms, the next Darkest Dungeon II update is officially in the works: the Steadfast Steward’s Update will enlist the Darkest Dungeon community to collaborate with the Red Hook team on creating an update focused on quality of live improvements. Players will be able to play new builds weekly and feedback their thoughts to the team directly in the Darkest Dungeon Discord. The areas the Red Hook team is tackling include Hero reworks, tooltip improvements, reworking existing features like the Academics View, and Token Glossary and other miscellaneous changes. More information on the Steadfast Steward’s Update is available on the Darkest Dungeon website.

A haunting physical edition for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, the Darkest Dungeon II: Anniversary Edition, has been revealed by Red Hook Studios and Skybound Games earlier this month. It includes a Collectible Steelbook, an In-Game Pop-Up Diorama, a papercraft Stagecoach, a Playable Deck of Cards, the Original Soundtracks, as well as Redemption Codes for The Binding Blade, The Inhuman Bondage, and The Infernal Supporter Pack DLCs.  The Darkest Dungeon II: Anniversary Edition is set for release in Q4 2025.
