Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius Japanese version will shut down on October 31

Square Enix has announced that they will shut down the Japanese version of Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius on Friday, October 31, at 12:00 noon JST. This will thus mark a complete end to the mobile game, which has been discontinued earlier for its global English server almost exactly a year ago on October 30, 2024. But while Brave Exvius will have a total lifespan of slightly over 10 years since its Japanese launch on October 22, 2015, it will now pass the 10th anniversary on a somber note following this announcement.

In the announcement letter, Square Enix has also immediately disabled all microtransactions for the outgoing free-to-play game. However, they have launched a series of Grand Finale campaigns that will run until the end-of-service date. But while the global version disappeared instantly, players of the Japanese releases on Apple App Store and Google Play Store will still be able to directly reminisce the game, as Square Enix will afterward convert the game to an offline memorial app that lets them review most of the content they have acquired.

As a side note, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius is not the only free-to-play game to get the axe, as Square Enix also simultaneously announced the closure of Dragon Quest of the Stars at exactly the same date and time, though this one does not seem to have any offline memorial app releasing afterwards.

However, the Japanese version of War of the Visions does not seem to be affected yet. Even though the global English version of the latter has been discontinued last May, WOTV's Japanese X account is still very active and the Android & iOS releases are still live, with only the Amazon Android version discontinued so far.
