Villion:Code releases for PlayStation 4&5 and Switch 1&2 in Japan on June 25

Compile Heart has formally revealed the new juvenile RPG they teased earlier this month. The new game will have the title Villion:Code, and it will be available in Japan for Sony PlayStation 4&5 and Nintendo Switch 1&2 on June 25.

This new game will take place at the Adhvan Resilience Academy, which is also located on a self-sustaining town island constructed in the Tokyo Bay. It has a total population of around 6,000 people—including students who come from all around the world, with only 30% of them being Japanese. But following a pandemic incident, the circular island somehow gets encased in a bubble that prevents any further entries or exits.

Furthermore, some of the staff and students on the island will abuse the genome editing technology to morph their entire bodies into monsters called GEMs and generate dungeons that attract other monsters. The player's party will be able to move 360° all around the tube dungeon, which will have randomized layouts and branches on each entry.

Getting into contact with a monster inside the dungeon will generate a battle that will be done in speedy real-time action. The party members will use a similar genome technology to morph only their arms into weapons called Genome Arms. Battles will take place in a ring arena zone, where enemies and allies alike can be instantly eliminated if they are thrown out of the ring by an attack.

Some of the game's features will also take inspiration from Buddhism. The attack and weakness elements will be based on the Buddhist Six Elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Air/Wind, Space, and Consciousness. The dungeons will also be modeled after the Ten Evil Acts.

Villion:Code will also have its theme songs performed by FRAM. The opening theme will be titled "Rebirth Code" and the ending song will be "Echoes of Tomorrow".

The game's producer, Kouji "Cozy" Okada, has also provided several tidbits during the reveal interview in the Weekly Famitsu magazine:

  • Villion is a portmanteau from "virion" and "billion"
  • Around 20 characters will have unique illustrations, including the 6 main characters. The other 5 main characters will also have their own sub-stories that will be fully voiced like the main story.
  • The protagonist is fixed to be male. He will only speak during battles and conversation choices.

You can find the official reveal trailer and screenshots for Villion:Code right below. We have also compiled the biographies of the 6 main characters afterward.

Main Characters

All 6 main characters are students of the Adhvan Resilience Academy who reside in the Mano dormitory. All of them are also part of the Science and Engineering Faculty with the same major in Life Science with the exception of Rika, who is still in her 1st-year and doesn't seem to have a specific faculty and major yet.

You are a talented boy who skipped a grade after enrolling, and now you are in your 6th year when other people your age would've been in the 5th year. • Rika Hayashi (voiced by Aoi Nagatsuki) - 13 years old, 1st-year student, joined Occult Research Club
The protagonist's younger cousin, who was raised together with you like real siblings during childhood. • Chloe Berjhe (voiced by Asami Shimoda) - 14 years old, 3rd-year student
An innocent female student who loves nature and animals, as she was raised in a natural environment. She had a history of getting suspended from school for refusing animal experiments. She is good at studying thanks to her instant memorization ability, but is bad at interacting with people. However, she can let off a rather relaxed expression to her close friends.

  • Oliver Heath (voiced by Atsushi Tamaru) - 15 years old, 4th-year student, joined Debate Club
An atheist male student who is derisive and isolated. He always reaches top grades and regularly wins in debates, but in his private life he tends to be hated due to his cynicism. Among his friends, Susilo often tries to get him involved, but he always ignores him.
