Utawarerumono: Lost Frag shuts down on April 23
Aquaplus has announced that they will end their services for Utawarerumono: Lost Frag on April 23 at 14:00 JST. The company has also ceased all microtransactions for the free-to-play mobile game effective immediately, and they will also hold a refund session for players who still have unused paid gems from the server's closure on April 23 until July 13 at 14:00 JST.
While other companies would usually cite a reason like the 'inability to keep players satisfied' for closing down their free-to-play games, Aquaplus did not provide such a reason for Lost Frag's closure announcement. The company instead simply thanks the players who have supported the mobile game, which shall have a total lifespan of around 6 years and 5 months following its launch in late November 2019.
This sudden closure adds more credence to Aquaplus putting a complete break for the Utawarerumono series for the foreseeable future. In a Famitsu interview following the Japanese release date reveal of Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered, Aquaplus also declared that the new console RPG will be the last entry in the Utawarerumono project. Munemitsu Suga has already completed his story plan for the whole series, and the company also has no other Utawarerumono projects in the works, as they will afterward shift their attention to their other IPs.
