French RPG developer Spiders shut down

Spiders Studio, the development team behind RPGs such as GreedFall and Steelrising, has confirmed French media reports that it is being liquidated. The news comes less than two months after the release of GreedFall: The Dying World, which will be Spiders' last game. Founded in 2008, Spiders has primarily developed role-playing games during its 18-year history, including The Technomancer and Bound By Flame.

Nacon, the French publisher who acquired Spiders in 2019 as Bigben Interactive at the time, filed for insolvency in February. Several Nacon subsidiaries, including Spiders, followed suit in filing for insolvency last month. French independent outlet Origami reports that Nacon was unable to find a buyer for Spiders as part of its restructuring.

In a new public post, French video game workers union Le Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV), which represents some Spiders employees, called the liquidation "First-degree murder" at the hands of Nacon, claiming "the liquidation is a premeditated and deliberate choice by Nacon’s management."

First off, we apologise for the silence over the past month - it's been a while.

We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.

What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.

We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
