Seven ONI RPG entries from Game Boy and Super Famicom eras are coming to Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2027
D3 Publisher has formally revealed that they will port the first seven ONI RPG titles to Nintendo Switch next year on January 28. The lineup will consist of all series entries released on the Game Boy and Super Famicom (SNES).
For the record, the ONI games are mostly RPGs with an alternative historical Japanese world setting. The five Game Boy entries were also a quintology that had its storyline connect from the first to the fifth games.
There is also an emphasis on the term 隠忍 (Undercover Ninja), which would normally be spelt Innin but is alternatively pronounced Oni in this series (which would normally be used for 鬼 (Ogre/Demon)).

Game Boy entries
- Kinin Koumaroku: ONI (鬼忍降魔録 - Record of the Demon Ninja Conquering the Devil - December 8, 1990)
- ONI II: Oni Densetsu (隠忍伝説 - Legend of the Oni - February 28, 1992)
- ONI III: Kuro no Hakaishin (黒の破壊神 - The Black God of Destruction - February 26, 1993)
- ONI IV: Kijin no Ketsuzoku (鬼神の血族 - Bloodline of the Demon God - March 11, 1994)
- ONI V: Oni wo Tsugu Mono (隠忍を継ぐ者 - The Inheritor of Oni - March 24, 1995)
Super Famicom (SNES) entries
- Kijin Kourin-den: ONI (鬼神降臨伝 - Legend of the Demon God's Descent - August 5, 1994)
- Bakumatsu Kourin-den: ONI (幕末降臨伝 - Legend of the Arrival of Bakumatsu Era - February 2, 1996)
The upcoming Switch ports will be available in several kinds of packages:
- Digital - Individually at ¥1,980 for each Game Boy title or ¥2,970 for the Super Famicom (SNES) ones
- Physical compilation of the 5 Game Boy entries at ¥8,800
- Physical compilation of the 2 Super Famicom (SNES) entries at ¥5,940
- First-print limited physical package of all 7 aforementioned entries at ¥22,000, with 7 soundtrack CDs from each entry and a new novel written by Takiya Iijima
There have been a multitude of initiatives to revive the ONI series in recent years, with the series creator Takiya Iijima (originally Takeo Iijima) also taking part in them. Last year, Iijima revealed that he is working on Oni Zero Cross as a brand-new entry in the series with a projected release window of 2027. Mebius and Konami are also going to showcase a demo build of Oni Zero: Revival Reboot for the Switch at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
