Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition details new Time Attack trials, Casual & Expert Modes, Event Theater, and Ponspectors

Following details revealed earlier this month, the official Japanese Twitter account for Xenoblade has revealed more new additions and gameplay details for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. We summarize these details below.

Time Attack Trials: Throughout the game, red portals will allow access to a new Time Attack mode. Within the portal, you can speak with the Nopon sage to access a set of challenge battles. There are two types of challenge battles, one where your current party takes on a wave of enemies freely as is, and another where your battle composition is fixed. Completing these can reward you with crystals to trade for new equipment and gems. This new addition seems to be very similar to the Challenge Battle Mode DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Casual & Expert Modes: In addition to the game's normal difficulty mode, there is now both a Casual and Expert mode that can be selected by the player. Casual will lower the difficulty of battles for those who want to experience the storyline without worry. Expert mode isn't a standard Hard mode - instead it lets players stockpile EXP and freely choose what levels your characters are at any time (up to a maximum based on the EXP acquired). This sort of leveling mode seems similar to the system found in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Event Theater: New to Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is an Event Theater that allows the player to rewatch cutscenes encountered in the game. You can also change the time of day, weather, and some character outfits for the cutscenes, as several are reflected in real-time.

Finally, the account further details the uniformed Nopon surveyor team (known in English as Ponspectors) that can be found throughout the Future Connected extra story. There are 12 Nopon to be found in total, and they are split into Red, Blue, and Yellow teams with different abilities. These Ponspectors are also the source of the extra story's Party finisher attack. The more Ponspectors you've befriended, the more damage & effects the attack will unleash.
