The RPGs Playable on Nintendo Switch 2 – New RPGs, Switch 2 Editions, Upgrades, and More

The RPGs Playable on Nintendo Switch 2 – New RPGs, Switch 2 Editions, Upgrades, and More

The Nintendo Switch 2 is already shaping up to be a great system for RPGs thanks to new games, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades, ports, and more. Our guide will cover all of the Nintendo Switch 2 RPGs based on what we know of the system leading into launch. Note that the Nintendo Switch is backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch games, so there will already be a massive library available, but some RPGs have issues.

The Nintendo Switch 2 RPGs

Note: This feature will not cover Nintendo Switch 1 games that get free patches, but will include those that get Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases and games that get full paid upgrades or upgrades to native releases. Beyond that, it will list the RPGs based on what we know so far. It will be updated regularly with more announcements and as we get our actual Nintendo Switch 2 consoles with the games to actually see how they play.  The games below are listed in alphabetical order.

Borderlands 4

The Borderlands ports to the original Nintendo Switch were quite impressive so it is going to be interesting to see how Borderlands 4 ends up when it releases this year for Nintendo Switch 2. While the other versions launch on September 12, the Switch 2 version doesn't have a date yet outside of just 2025.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster

Square Enix's launch title for Nintendo Switch 2 is a remaster of the 3DS classic with some new content through mini-games made for the Switch 2. While it does seem like some elements have been cut, hopefully this ends up being a good way to experience the game and it leads to Bravely Second: End Layer making the jump to modern platforms.

Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition

The Witcher 3 remains one of the most impressive Nintendo Switch ports so it is good to see CD Projekt Red not only announce that it will bring Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition with the Phantom Liberty expansion with a proper physical option that has the game fully on cartridge, something a few other publishers should take note of. Based on my time with it so far, it is even more impressove than The Witcher 3 was on Nintendo Switch with a superb handheld experience. Hopefully the few performance issues in Phantom Liberty can be ironed out.

Deltarune Chapters 1-4

Deltarune Chapters 1-4 is a new paid release that also arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title. The remaining chapters will be available as free updates to this release. If you buy Deltarune Chapters 1-4 on Switch, you get the Switch 2 version for free. This version even has a special room letting you use mouse controls on Nintendo Switch 2.

Disgaea 7 Complete

While NIS released Disgaea 7 Complete for PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch in Japan last year, Disgaea 7 Complete is being released in the West exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. This release features prior DLC and new content together. Disgaea 7 Complete is set for a Fall 2025 release on Nintendo Switch 2 in the West. It is unfortunately a Game Key Card release so don't expect to see it in this feature.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam when it releases this October bringing remakes of two classic games to modern systems. It is already shaping up to much more than a traditional remake based on our hands-on time with it.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition brings Elden Ring with the Shadow of the Erdtree and some additional content to Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Elden Ring is a great portable experience as seen by how it plays on Steam Deck, and hopefully the new Nintendo Switch 2 port turns out well.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrived as a launch title earlier this month for Nintendo Switch 2 bringing big visual and performance upgrades over the original Switch version. Since launching, it has already gotten another big Switch 2-specific upgrade improving draw distance and reflections with more planned for the future. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a fantastic way to experience this amazing RPG on the go.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Final Fantasy VII Remake debuted on PS4 back in 2020 and it saw an enhanced and upgraded version in the form of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade that was released on PS5 and eventually on PC. Square Enix is bringing this new version to Nintendo Switch 2 this Winter.

Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles

Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles is an enhanced remaster of the 1997-released tactical RPG Final Fantasy Tactics coming to Switch 2 and other platforms on September 30, 2025. This release will feature added gameplay features including a classic option. Unlike many cross generation titles, Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles will seemingly offer a free upgrade for Nintendo Switch owners.

Hades II

Supergiant Games' first ever sequel, Hades II, will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch when it leaves early access on PC platforms. While it doesn't have a date yet, the gameplay for the Switch 2 release looks promising. Hopefully this one ships with cross-save like the original Hades did a few years ago.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

While many expected a new Nintendo Warriors game for Switch 2, having a new Hyrule Warriors already is quite surprising. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is in development by Koei Tecmo's new AAA Studio led by Yosuke Hayashi. It looks like it will provide an experience closer to what Age of Calamity delivered for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild than the debut crossover Warriors game. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment releases this Winter.

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road

Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road was recently confirmed to launch on August 21 worldwide with the addition of a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will feature HDR, high frame rate, mouse support, high resolution, and GameChat support. There will be a paid upgrade for those who buy Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road on Nintendo Switch to get the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as well. Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road seems like a monster of a game going by its recent showing with how much it will include across all the game modes.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess was a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2 bringing the Japanese-inspired Kagura action strategy experience to Nintendo platforms for the first time with gyro and mouse controls. While the port isn't perfect, it is a good way to experience one of Capcom's more interesting games in recent years.

No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files

The newest AI: The Somnium Files series game is arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside Switch and Steam in the form of No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files. It is set after the events of the first game. Despite being a spin-off game, it is supposed to have a comparable amount of content as a main entry. Unlike many cross-generation titles, No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files is priced the same as other platforms and will launch on July 25.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches on October 16 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release. A showing during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct painted a promising picture for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition's visual and performance upgrade over the original Switch release. Note that while you cannot use a Nintendo Switch Online voucher (if you have any left) to buy the Switch 2 Edition, you can buy the Switch version and then get the upgrade pack.

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army

Raidou Remastered feels more like a remake of Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Soulless Army based on its additions and visual enhancements. Originally announced for just Switch and other platforms, it is also launching for Nintendo Switch 2 as a native release on June 19.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

The action RPG and life simulation hybrid, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, is another Nintendo Switch game that got a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and it was also a launch title available in a complete physical release. Read my impressions of the Switch 2 Edition and more here.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, like some of the other RPGs on this list, was first revealed for PC and Nintendo Switch before being confirmed to also get a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition during the Direct. This Nintendo DS remake adds a lot over the original like updated visuals, new characters, voiced event scenes, and more. Read our preview of Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar here and our interview here. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar launches on August 27.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster was a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2. While there is no upgrade option for existing owners and this is a new purchase, there will be a way to transfer save data over. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Suikoden I & II HD Remaster will be quite an upgrade over the Switch 1 version with support for 1440p 60fps docked and 1080p 60fps handheld. The current Switch version supports 1080p 30fps docked and 720p 60fps handheld. This sadly is a Game Key Card release at retail.

The Duskbloods

FromSoftware's Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive is a PvPvE game due next year. The Duskbloods is a fascinating project and Director Hidetaka Miyazaki went over the gameplay loop, role-playing mechanics, and setting recently in an interview with Nintendo here.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a huge technical upgrade over the original with support for Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App, improved performance, improved resolution, faster load times, and HDR support. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is included for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers but will be sold for $9.99 for everyone else. A physical edition is also available. Unfortunately, the Breath of the Wild DLC is not included  in this bundle.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Just like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a huge technical upgrade over the original with support for Zelda Notes (including QR code sharing) in the Nintendo Switch App, improved performance, improved resolution, faster load times, and HDR support. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is included for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers but will be sold for $9.99 for everyone else. A physical edition is also available..

Wild Hearts S

Wild Hearts S was one of the biggest surprises from the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. Not only does it bring a very demanding game to Nintendo Switch 2, but it adds 4 player co-op. The original Wild Hearts only supports up to 3 players in co-op. Wild Hearts S launches on July 25 for Nintendo Switch 2. While it is a digital-only title in North America, it is getting a Game Key Card release in Europe.

Witchbrook

Simulation and social RPG Witchbrook had a grand reveal for the original Nintendo Switch before also being confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches this Winter for all platforms. Witchbrook also supports up to 4-players.

Yakuza 0 Director's Cut

Yakuza 0 Director's Cut brings one of the best Yakuza games to Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title. Yakuza 0 Director's Cut features 26 minutes of new cutscenes. It also adds an online multiplayer mode and the licensed opening song, Bubble, which was cut from prior Western versions of Yakuza 0. Stay tuned for my review covering this version.

Ys X: Proud Nordics

Ys X: Proud Nordics is a significantly upgraded version of Ys X: Nordics, and it is set to launch on July 31 in Japan for Nintendo Switch 2. Read about the new features and content added here. While Ys X: Nordics launched on PS5, PS4, and Switch in Japan, this version is only announced for Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan so far. No localization has been confirmed as of this writing. There is also no upgrade option available as of this writing for existing owners of Ys X.
