Fantasian: Neo Dimension - How to unlock Super Hard Difficulty
When I reviewed Fantasian: Neo Dimension last year, one of the defining points of the port was the addition of "Normal" mode - a new, easier difficulty than the notorious challenge of the original release, while still maintaining a satisfying gameplay loop. What I didn't realize at the time, however, was that Creative Studio 3 and Mistwalker are sickos. They hadn't just made an easier difficulty as an option to sand down the edges of the game for those not willing to attempt the original game's difficulty, they also hid an additional even harder difficulty within the game - and it's only recently that the existence of such a challenge was revealed, as well as how to access it.
Unlocking Super Hard Difficulty in Fantasian: Neo Dimension
The good, or bad news, is that players don't have to complete the game in order to access the new "Super Hard" mode; instead, it's very much a hidden easter egg that players have to go out of their way to unlock. It's pretty simple, and thankfully players can technically unlock it from the moment they boot up the game:
- At the title screen, open the Config menu and close it 5 times in a row.
- Once you've opened the menu the fifth time, a sound chime will let you know that the difficulty has been unlocked.
- Now, simply start or load a save - at difficulty select you can now find Super Hard mode available as an option.

Now, we don't know any specifics about what this mode changes. Fantasian's original difficulty - Hard Mode in Fantasian: Neo Dimension - was already particularly tough, especially in the latter half of the game. Since this a completely hidden difficulty mode, there's not any achievements or trophies tied to it either; the only reward you'll receive for clearing the game on it are bragging rights. As Fantasian: Neo Dimension's Director Takuto Nakamura notes, even the developers have trouble keeping up with the challenge. Are you willing to attempt the gauntlet that awaits?
