"We have been stoked to push what the Switch 2 can do" – Warframe Community Director Megan Everett discusses The Old Peace and more
Digital Extremes will launch Warframe's next narrative chapter, The Old Peace, on December 10 for all platforms worldwide. Ahead of its release, I had a chance to ask questions to Warframe's Community Director Megan Everett to discuss the new update, the upcoming Switch 2 version, potential Steam Machine support, coffee, and more. You can read our conversations below.
RPG Site: For those unaware, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do at Digital Extremes.
Megan Everett: My name is Megan Everett, and I am the current Community Director of Warframe. I have been at Digital Extremes for over 12 amazing years and I’m honored to work alongside such incredibly passionate developers. My love for video games started as a child playing Nintendo 64 and having to share a Game Boy with my sister (we did not share well haha!)

RPG Site: Warframe's next update coming later this week is a massive one. How do you balance adding in new content for the longtime players while getting newcomers into the game?
Megan Everett: Our approach to this question changes every year, but it’s always something we have in mind as Warframe continues to grow. This year, we actually spent a good amount of time changing what the new player experience looks like through things like shortening what we call the “Golden Path” through the main story and adding in new tutorials like The Teacher Quest. In order for those new players to become longtime players, we have to stay flexible and experiment as developers as the later parts of the game continue to change, too. We want every aspect of Warframe to continue feeling like a “modern” experience.
For The Old Peace, we are trying out a new feature where players who have completed The Teacher Quest are able to unlock the two new game modes and experience the newest gameplay systems with their friends. Granted, there are some precautions and restrictions, and we’ve done everything we can to avoid spoilers for them, but as long as they have a friend who is willing to shepherd them through this later game content, they can jump in without needing to get through 12 years' worth of campaign Quests to experience our new and shiny gameplay.

RPG Site: What aspect of The Old Peace do you think makes it a worthwhile point for lapsed players to get back into Warframe?
Megan Everett: We are not only going to be pulling on some long-anticipated story threads in the main Quest, but this is the most modern Warframe has ever felt. The graphical changes we’ve made to the game recently in a number of areas make everything feel fresh and truly next-gen, culminating with our graphical and art remaster of the Operator/Drifter. We often describe it as jumping from PS3 to PS5 visually; it really does feel that dramatic. That “modern” feeling could also be applied to our new game modes, The Descendia and The Perita Rebellion. They are some of the most experimental and fun things we’ve tried to shake up Warframe’s core gameplay.

RPG Site: 2026 will see you launch Warframe on Android and Switch 2. How has it been for you and the team working on Switch 2 and the response from players with the little bits you've shown in Devstreams, and will you be supporting the Steam Machine from Valve?
Megan Everett: We have been stoked to push what the Switch 2 can do and experiment with its features around Warframe’s mechanics. Players seem just as excited as we are about Warframe coming to more platforms! We’ve seen requests for things like compatibility with the Joy-Cons’ mouse controls and whatnot, so we are exploring what’s possible and feels good for Warframe’s gameplay.
Speaking of more platforms, it’s always our goal to get Warframe in the hands of more players. So if the new Steam Machine has more optimization needed beyond our traditional Steam for PC build, we will, of course, be excited to explore that with Valve.

RPG Site: Are you happy with the pace of Warframe updates right now, and do you plan on continuing with it in 2026?
Megan Everett: 100% yes, I think we’ve really found our stride with the current cadence of update releases. Two smaller updates, one of which is an “echo update” expanding on the previous major update, one medium-sized story-focused update, and then our big pivotal update that tends to release around the end of the year. This allows us to play around with the ideas for new Warframes and cook up refreshing new game modes. That being said, we also hate putting ourselves in a box, so this typical pattern may change, but for now, it feels right for us and our live service operations.

RPG Site: Which Sleep Token song would fit in Frieren?
Megan Everett: Oh wow! Now that’s an interesting question! I’ll admit that I’m not caught up on Frieren, but from what I have seen and know thus far, I would personally say ‘Shelter - from the room below’.

RPG Site: How do you like your coffee?
Megan Everett: Straight black and right into my veins. As a little treat, I love a pistachio latte, but the regular everyday choice is a big hot black coffee!
