Shin Megami Tensei V Screenshots detail Story Premise, Main Characters, and Gameplay

Atlus has released new screenshots and information for Shin Megami Tensei V, outlining the main story premise and characters in the game alongside the first set of revealed demons. 

Many of the details recap what was revealed in the E3 2021 showing for the RPG, although now we have more direct screenshots and information from Atlus on what we saw in the trailers. Atlus also touches lightly on various gameplay components including the Press Turn battle system, demon negotiation, fusion with Sophia, and more.

Story

The protagonist is a high school third-year student studying at a boarding academy in Tokyo. One day, you and your friends were to pass through the Shinagawa station on your way home back from school. However, a murder incident took place nearby, which closed the station's traffic.

As you're looking for your friends who take different routes, you enter a nearby tunnel, which suddenly collapses. When you wake up, you see the city turned into a ruined desert. You will be then assaulted by Demons. Just when you are running away, a mysterious man appears in front of you.

"Young man, if you do not want to die, take my hand."

The moment you take his hand, the two of you are engulfed in light and merge into the taboo existence Nahobino. You will be able to explore Da'at, the deserted Tokyo, while destroying Demons with Nahobino's power. Da'at is infested by deities and demons from mythological worlds that wage wars against each other for the sake of their own survival.

As you go to desire the truth, you will bet the future of the world and throw yourself into the war between deities and demons.

Characters

Shin Megami Tensei V Characters
  • Protagonist: A high school third-year student boy living in Tokyo. You will get caught in a tunnel collapse on your way home and end up in the deserted world of Da'at. Your character has a hobby of reading books.

  • Aogami (voiced in Japanese by Toshiyuki Morikawa): A mysterious man who suddenly appeared in front of the protagonist while being assaulted by demons in Da'at. He transforms to Nahobino by taking the protagonist's hand.

  • Nahobino: A taboo existence born from the fusion between the protagonist and Aogami. You will be able to use paranormal power to fight against demons. The protagonist will make the decisions, while Aogami will only guide you with his voice.

The battle system uses the usual command-based press turn battles.

You can negotiate with demons to turn them into partners.

Visit Sophia, the head of the heresy world, to create the strongest partner by fusing demons.

There will be over 200 demons that will appear in Daat. Other than familiar demons, there will also be multiple demons newly drawn by Masayuki Doi.

The game will also feature multiple endings.

More information about the allies' growth system will be explained at a later time.

Atlus has also been releasing one video per day of the more than 200 demons found in the game, which you can find on the developer's YouTube channel. Atlus released artwork for the first eight demons, found in the gallery below: Amanozako, Daimon, Angel, Fionn mac Cumhaill, Mermaid, Jack Frost, Molek, and Arioch.
