G-Mode to port Bandai Namco's Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Namco Chronicle to Nintendo Switch and PC Steam

G-Mode has revealed that Bandai Namco is newly joining the G-Mode Archives lineup, where the now-retro Japanese flip phone games are getting new ports for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. The first two titles that will appear here are Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Namco Chronicle.

Xenosaga: Pied Piper appeared first for Vodafone flip phones in July 2004, with the i-mode platform following suit two years later in July 2006. The story in this game takes place a century before Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht, and it stars Ziggy, who was still a human named Jan Sauer during that time.

Xenosaga: Pied Piper:

  • Traditional JRPG with turn-based battles.

  • Gameplay follows a similar system to the mainline Xenosaga games, but adapted for mobile devices.

  • 2D overhead perspective, with a combination of conversations and cinematic cutscenes advancing the narrative.

  • Battles take place in a virtual space tied to the story.

  • The storyline was written by series creators Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga.

  • A port of a Japanese flip phone title (feature phones popular before smartphones).

*This release does not add elements such as languages and achievements that were not part of the original version.

Series Overview

A port of the classic title originally released in 2006 for feature phones, part of Bandai Namco acclaimed JRPG series, Xenosaga.

A spin-off of the Xenosaga trilogy and part of the Xeno metaseries, the story follows the human life of cyborg Ziggy a key character in the Xenosaga trilogy—a century before the events of "Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht".

Game Story

In this spin-off, Ziggy—who appeared in the main story as a cyborg—steps into the spotlight as the protagonist.

The story centers on events 100 years before the main story, when he was still human and served in the Federal Police under the name Jan Sauer in counterterrorism operations.

Can Jan and his special investigations unit stop the brutal killer codenamed Voyager before further chaos unfolds?

The second title in this announcement, Namco Chronicle, first appeared in 2009. This was a strategy RPG featuring crossover appearances of characters from Namco's classic franchises, such as The Adventure of Valkyrie, The Tower of Druaga, and Wonder Momo.

  • Characters from multiple game titles appear together.

  • Gorgeous skill animations and dramatic cut-ins.

  • Coordinated combo scenes between characters.

  • A crossover spanning more than 20 characters.

  • A port of a Japanese flip phone title (feature phones popular before smartphones).

*This release does not add elements such as languages and achievements that were not part of the original version.

Game Overview

This is an original tactical RPG created exclusively for mobile devices, featuring heroes and heroines from a variety of classic namco games.

Game Story

The story spans three distinct parts—Fantasy, City, and Space—and new allies join your party throughout each one.

The characters who come to your aid change depending on the world you explore.

Between tactical simulation stages, adventure segments bring the crossover story to life, featuring memorable interactions between iconic namco characters.

Popular characters such as Valkyrie from The Adventure of ValkyrieGil and Ki from The Tower of Druaga, and Momo from Wonder Momo make an appearance.

Who else will join the adventure? The rest you will have to discover for yourself.

G-Mode has also opened the Steam pages for the upcoming G-Mode Archives releases of Xenosaga: Pied Piper and Namco Chronicle. The company still has yet to announce the release dates for both ports, though. We will keep you informed when the ports have become available on both Switch and Steam.
