Ys IX: Monstrum Nox details Red King, more NPCs, and Activities
Falcom has posted new information and screenshots for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, detailing more NPCs found in the city of Balduq. The most recent issue of Dengeki PlayStation also provided some details on tertiary gameplay activities included in the game, such as Azure Petal collecting.
We also get an official bio for the mysterious Red King. Check out the details below.
Playable Character - Red King
Weapon: One-Handed Sword
Voiced by: Yuki Kaji [Editor's note: This is the same actor who voices Adol]
A person completely shrouded in mystery other than that his name is the Red King. He has red hair which is reminiscent of Adol.
More NPC Introductions
Maxim (voiced by Toshiki Kusu) - A man of many mysteries, wearing a hood on his head and accompanied by a pet owl called Arthur. He does business as the Dark Trader in a corner of Balduq and sells classified information & shady products not circulated in public. On the side, he also seems to gather information related to the prison interiors as well as its prisoners.
Salady (voiced by Kazusa Aranami) - A beautiful traveling doctor who is currently staying in Balduq city, she is well known for her dark brown skin. She does her job as a doctor vigorously. As she diagnoses poor citizens for free, she is often relied upon by them. While she is helping her fellow doctor acquaintance in the city, she also seems to be searching for "a certain item", and visits the tavern that Adol and Dogi also sneak into.
Tito (voiced by Yoshifumi Ohno) - A kind and intelligent blacksmith apprentice. His father, who used to be a blacksmith, passed away a few years ago. He currently makes a living with his much younger sister Arche. When his father was still alive, the latter seemed to have wielded a hammer used to forge unique equipment that can repel "Demons"
Silhouette (voiced by Natsuko Hara) - A mysterious girl wearing a maid costume and an eerie mask on her face at all times. Behind this appearance, she has a graceful personality with common sense. She used to work as a servant of a person whom she calls "Professor", but she was captured by Knights of the Star Mark who were suspicious of her masked looks and she ended up getting imprisoned. The mask seems to have a power to "unsee" a certain thing.
Xavier (voiced by Kyoka Moriya) - A beast from a species known as the Sacred Beast Roo in the Europe region. Although it's supposed to speak a unique language different from humans, it is somehow able to speak human language and approaches them with a holier-than-thou attitude. It seems to have settled down inside the prison, and its encounter with Adol becomes a cue for it to lend its power as one of Adol's helpers.
Ys IX Gameplay - Petals and Graffiti
- You can collect Azure Petals and find graffiti while exploring. After collecting a certain amount of them, you can report to specified NPCs (for petals: a citizen named Margaret, for graffiti: Baran the folk scholar) and receive rewards such as rare items. Some graffiti may even grant stat boosts instantly.
- As you either progress through the main storyline or clear certain quests, your interactions with Balduq citizens will eventually make them available to provide some form of help (eg Maxim starts selling his items to you). Some citizens may only be approached by using a Monstrum's Superpower Action on the field.
- A Superpower Action can also be used by other characters as long as the original owner is still in the party
