Zelda Breath of the Wild: Armor Set & Outfit Locations, Stats and Bonuses

A proper RPG-like armor system being added into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was something of a surprise, but given how much the game adjusts the existing Zelda formula perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised! There's quite a lot of armor in the game, and while they all share the same basic base stats with only minor variations, many have unique bonus effects.

These bonus effects are not to be underestimated - the sheer difference having a full set of Zora armor makes to swimming or the climbing gear in full makes to your climb speed has to be seen to be believed. If you're playing Breath of the Wild smart, you'll be swapping gear often.

Every piece of armor in Breath of the Wild starts with the same basic set of stats in a very small range, as you'll see below. Not accounted for below is how that every single Armor Set in the game can be upgraded - and upgrading them twice or more will give you access to their unique set bonuses.

To upgrade armor, you simply need to track down the Great Fairy Fountains and awaken the Great Fairies there - then they'll offer to upgrade your gear for you.

Don't forget, too, that you can dye your armor into more unique colors at the dye shop in Hateno Town.

Below you'll find a list of every armor in the game (Amiibo Armor excluded, but we have a dedicated page on Amiibo Bonuses) as well as where you can find them. This way you can decide which is the best armor for you. Enjoy!

DLC Armor Items & Sets

  • Korok Mask

  • Phantom Armor

    • When worn as a set, significantly boosts your attack power.

    • A classic from Wind Waker, you must find it in the Trial of the Sword DLC, as detailed in our Phantom Armor unlock guide.

  • Tingle's Fairy Outfit

    • When worn as a set, it boosts your movement speed at night. Why does Tingle need that buff...?

    • Found as part of the DLC - you'll find the pieces of it scattered across Hyrule Field's ruins. For more information, see our Tingle outfit guide.

  • Midna's Helmet

    • Wearing this weakens the attacks of Guardians and other robotic enemies - using the power of the Twilight Realm, we guess.

    • It's found at the Sage Temple Ruins in Hyrule's main map, as detailed in our Midna Helmet location guide.

  • Majora's Mask

    • Probably one of the coolest of the DLC items, as well as looking great, wearing it makes some enemies fear you and flee.

    • To get it, you'll need to find it hidden in the Kolomo Garrison Ruins, which isn't far from the Great Plateau. The full location is in our Majora's Mask location guide.

  • Salvager Armor from Xenoblade 2

    • Added to the game as a tie-in, you can get armor ripped straight from the world of Xenoblade 2. It boosts your swimming speed - similar to the Zora Armor.

    • To find it, you'll need to complete a special Xenoblade 2 DLC promo quest - the full details of which can be found on our Salvager armor guide.
