Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Part I: Cai's Path Walkthrough

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Part I: Cai's Path Walkthrough

This page is RPG Site's Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave walkthrough for Part I: Cai's Path. RPG Site's walkthrough for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will be separated by Parts in the game. If you were looking for a different section, check out the following links.

Following the game's short Prologue section, you have chosen Cai as your Part I protagonist. Cai's Path is a good, slow introduction to Fortune's Weave structure and many systems. It's worth noting that Cai's access to the Dagda world map is a little bit more limited compared to the other protagonists, as there are several regions of Dagda that his party will not be able to travel to throughout Part I. However, Cai is the only protagonist who gets access to the Farming, Lure, and Stable mechanics in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.

In any case, select the Fox Obelisk and let's get started.

What this walkthrough will do:

  • Offer a minimalist walkthrough so you know what you need to do at any point in the game.

What the walkthrough will not do:

  • Offer anything more than the basic strategies and tips for battles.

Cai's Path - Part 1 Chapter 1 - Uproar in Ribeira

  • After the cutscenes, you'll explore Cai's hometown of Ribeira. Here, you can find yellow pick-up orbs with semi-random items.
    • Note: Don't fret too much about ensuring you pick up every single yellow orb at every opportunity throughout the game. These are usually common items, and you'll pick up hundreds during your playthroughs. Keep an eye out, but you won't miss out on anything crucial if you accidentally glance over a few.
  • Head to the marker to continue.

[Combat] - Battle vs. Bandits

  • Victory: Seize the red jewel.
    • This condition changes to Defeat Nero partway through
  • Defeat: Cai falls in battle.
  • Strategy: This is a straightforward tutorial battle.
  • Notes:
    • You can have Tialla and Peter talk to Cai for a slight support bump.
    • Tialla can Heal with the Assist option.
    • Fortuna's Blessing unlocks during this battle on turn 2.
    • During the battle, Cai will learn Underworld Burst Blaze Art.

Cai's Path - Part 1 Chapter 2 - Road to the Capital

  • After the chapter opening cutscenes, you'll find yourself in an Event Clash.
  • After the battle, you'll get a choice to pursue or ignore. Go ahead and choose Pursue. This leads to a small dungeon tutorial.
    • You can choose Ignore if you'd like; you just miss out on a small dungeon. You'll be able to come back later during Free Time.

[Dungeon Tutorial] - Galen Fort Ruins

  • Check out our Dungeon Guide for more details on Dungeons in general.
  • In dungeons, you'll pick up to five characters for your exploration party.
  • You can press Y to get a preemptive strike on an enemy, or to destroy barrels, crates, and crystals.
  • Make sure the "Show Path" option is selected with ZR. This makes it easier to see where you have been.
  • Each dungeon has one Rest Spot. You can use this to make food to replenish HP and Magic (but not LP). Each character will heal by the HP sum of the items selected, as well as Magic uses if they are a magic user.
    • Tip: Check the state of your party before using a rest spot so you know how much HP you need to heal.
    • In this dungeon, however, it is unlikely you'll need to heal.
  • If a dungeon has a back entrance, you'll see an Uncharted symbol in the top right corner.
  • Break every box and crystal you see for items. While there are certain food and smithing items that can be found in certain dungeons, what you actually get during any given exploration is random.
  • Each dungeon will have a certain number of treasure chests, listed in the upper right corner. Unlike the collectable items, chests always have the same contents.
  • While dungeons do not have an enemy counter similar to the chest counter, the game will still tell you when all the foes have been defeated with a pop-up screen. If you haven't seen this pop-up, there is at least one enemy group remaining.
  • Links in Clash Battles cost LP, which is not easily replenished in dungeons. Generally, you'll want to save it for more difficult encounters.
    • However, this tutorial dungeon only has a few battles, so Link away.
  • Tip: If you are playing on Standard difficulty, consider holding + to have the game 'Skip to Conclusion'. Assuming you aren't in a dungeon far above your level, you'll usually be fine. In the case one of your characters does die, you'll immediately be given the option to restart the battle.
  • In Galen Fort Ruins, you'll find Hunter's Bow and Vulnerary. Be sure to get these before heading to the marker.
    • If you activate the cutscene before getting the items, don't worry; you can come back for them later.

[Combat] - Defending the Carriage

  • Victory: Defeat all of the enemy units
  • Defeat: The caravan is destroyed or Cai falls in battle
  • Strategy: Have Castor take care of the northern enemies while Cai/Tialla/Peter gang up on the southern ones.
  • Notes:
    • Lances are always effective against riders.

In Dagsion

  • After the battle and cutscenes, you'll be in the main city of Dagsion. You don't have access to the full city yet, however.
  • [Important] Optional Scenes
    • These scenes are noted on the map with a slow pulse.
      • Note that the game tracks which scenes you've seen (at the Shrine of Casuality pedestal in the Obelisk Chamber), so you might as well try to see them all. This guide will point them out in each chapter. They can be easily overlooked if you are not careful.
    • Before doing anything, see an optional scene with Castor/Centurio to the east.
  • After seeing the optional scene, check the bulletin board for two tutorial quests, then visit the two shops.
  • Afterwards, you'll be tasked to go to the inn. While you can explore a little bit, there's not much to find, so talk to Peter.
  • After a few more scenes, with Castor, head to the sewers at the marker.
    • In the sewers, you can pick up Vulnerary, Talisman Shield. You won't be able to explore the whole sewer dungeon yet.
  • At the end of the dungeon, a few cutscenes, and the chapter will end.

Cai's Path - Part 1 Chapter 3 - Partings and Hopes

  • After the cutscenes, head to the west side for a lengthy scene.
  • When you get control again, head to the arena entrance and talk to Ultand for more scenes.
  • After more scenes, you'll run into a Kindness Quest tutorial. Kindness Quests are a special type of subquest unique to Cai.
Lost Hair Clip

Objective: Deliver the hair clip.
Location: Niraga Mine
Reward: 550G, 100R
End: 2/28
  • The game will automatically begin to take you to the Niraga Mine dungeon to complete this quest.
  • On your way to the mine, you'll run into your first Skirmish battle, which are the generic battles encountered on the World Map.
    • Note: Skirmish battles will always allow 6 units at maximum.
  • Once you are in Niraga Mine, you can grab chests with White-magic Manual, Coin, Coin, and Miracle Gem.
    • Once you pick up the quest item, leave the dungeon through the rear entrance.
  • This is followed by a Gift/Recruitment tutorial. Give Guzran the Mature Ghose and add him to your team.

Free Time 1

Start: 2/20
End: 2/28

Time/Turns Note - How the passage of time works

Before anything else, let me clarify how time works in Fortune's Weave. At the bottom left of the interface, you'll see a date, a time, and a remaining number of turns before the battle at the chapter end. Each day is broken up into four six-hour blocks: 0:00-5:59, 6:00-11:59, 12:00-17:59, and 18:00-23:59. Each of these blocks is a Turn.

(Honestly, instead of the actual running clock, you could think of days as being broken up into Night, Morning, Afternoon, and Evening.)

The short of it is that, bluntly, the clock time itself is meaningless. Only the Turns count really matters. While time appears to pass in real-time, this isn't actually the case. Until you perform an action that costs a Turn, the clock will actually stop on its own. So, you don't have to worry about 'wasting time' or 'losing turns' because the game time will only actually progress when you explicitly perform actions that cost time.

On that note, several actions around Dagsion do not cost turns (although they may cost money). These are things like feeding the Pale Raven, praying at a shrine, training at the Arena, and having Meals at the Inn, among several other things (note, not all of these will be available at this time).

Some actions do cost a Turn, however, such as resting in the Inn. The game will note this in the interface.

In short, don't fret about the clock itself. In fact, you'll see it stop at 5:59, 11:59, 17:59, or 23:59 if you haven't spent a turn.
  • At the start of Free Time, the game will throw a flurry of tutorials at you.
  • Marketplace now open
    • This is where you buy gifts. The Armory and Weapon Shop are also open.
  • Foresight Tutorial
    • The Pale Raven can show you what's upcoming in the next battle once Free Time ends. This gives you clues on things to obtain or accomplish during Free Time.
    • You can also feed the Pale Raven once per week. This raises a character's support with Eshmel, which will be important in later parts of the game. This minigame works like Tea Time in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This action does NOT cost a Turn.
  • Adventure Guide Tutorial
    • Anna will give tips on things to do during Free Time. This is accessed from the menu.
  • Gift/Recruitment Tutorial
    • You can now start giving gifts to characters to raise support and eventually recruit characters.
    • Most battles in Fortune's Weave allow you to have at least six characters. In Cai's route, Ultand will eventually join automatically, meaning you have 5 units. A good starting suggestion for a sixth unit is Noctua, due to her low recruitment requirements. You just need to wait until you have 4 Renown before you can add her.
      • Of course, later battles will allow larger teams, and you are free to play with whoever you choose.
      • Check out our Recruitment Guide for more details.
    • Meals at the Inn are a great way to raise support with characters you are trying to recruit. Just note you need to give characters a gift first before they can be invited for a meal.
  • If this is your first playthrough, some Subquests appear on the Bulletin Board. These are simple tutorial quests that point you to various services. Here are the quick rewards:
    • Awaiting You at the Inn - Sand-Boar Meat, 10 Renown
    • Gifts of the Marketplace - Ginji, 10 Renown
  • If you've completed Subquests on other previously played paths, you'll automatically gain rewards here for completing them. This happens for every chapter.
    • If you replay the same route a second time, Subquests you've completed the first time will automatically be completed.
  • Map Notes
    • Orange dots on the map are characters you have not met yet. Many will eventually be recruitable, although you won't have enough renown/support yet. Be sure to talk to every orange dot you see.
    • Using the Map screen, you can fast travel based on Areas, Facilities, or People directly.

Kindness Quests

Note: Most quests are trivially easy to complete, usually requiring you to travel to a certain square on the map to fight a battle or search. So, we'll only give tips on how to complete objectives if they are especially tricky.

Furious Vengeance

From: Boy in City Streets
Objective: Defeat the thieves
Location: Rolling Breeze Hill
Reward: 550G, 130R
End: 2/28
The Fabled Sunset

From: Old Man in City Streets
Objective: Defeat the pack of animals.
Location: Magnus Plateau
Reward: 550G, 130R
End: 2/28

Chapter Suggestions

  • Note that Cai's first Free Time is short and restricted in what you can do, compared to later Free Times.
  • Talk to all the characters around town and complete the two Kindness Quests you picked up. Remember to turn them in to the questgivers when completed.
  • Consider clearing low-level dungeons near Dagsion, including the following, but don't worry if you don't get to all of them. You'll have plenty of time later:
    • Collapsed Fort (6)
    • Heretics' Cave (7)
    • Galen Fort Ruins (8)

[Combat] - Battle vs. Goliath

  • Victory: Defeat Goliath.
  • Defeat: Cai falls in battle.
  • Strategy: Another straightforward battle. Simply have Cai and Guzran stay in front, everyone else bring up the rear, and heal when necessary.
  • Notes:
    • Ultand can Heal.

Cai's Path - Part 1 Chapter 4 - Festival of the Strong

  • After the chapter-opening scenes, when you get control, head to the sewers once again.
  • In the sewers, you can destroy objects and fight enemies once again. Follow the other path to the right this time.
  • Once you are in the Arena Underground, talk to Gabriel, then Castor, then Bertrand.
  • After the events in the Underground, you'll have a tutorial for the Vandahl Trading Company, which sells items for trade instead of gold.
    • This tutorial will take you to the Dagsion Port area for the first time.
  • This is followed up by a Search Tutorial, where you can spend turns to acquire items from the World Map.
  • This is followed up by a Mentoring tutorial, which is a function unique to Cai.
    • Mentoring Tutorial with Centurio - Archer's Ring

Free Time 2

Start: 3/1
End: 3/7

  • Optional Scene - Before doing anything else, there's an optional scene with Bertrand in the jail. Cai will gain Sword EXP.
    • Again, these optional scenes can sometimes be easily overlooked. Be sure to see this.

Kindness Quests

The Missing Granddaughter

From: Old Woman in City Streets
Objective: Speak with the Granddaughter
Location: Dagsion - Just across the city bridge near the questgiver
Reward: 1500G, 100R
End: 3/7
Cleaning an Abandoned House

From: Wealthy Man in Lowtown path to Port
Objective: Defeat the Wild Beasts in the ruins
Reward: 1500G, 130R
Location: Forsaken Lakehouse
End: 4/10

Subquests

Starting in Chapter 4, you may start encountering generic Subquests around town. These are categorized differently from Cai's Kindness Quests.

In RPG Site's testing of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave with two different players, we observed that Subquest availability was not simply tied to a certain protagonist. The subquests that become available to you appear to be semi-random, and it may depend on the order in which you complete Part I Paths. That means it's difficult to state exactly which Subquests you'll run into.

Check out our Subquest Guide page for more details.

Chapter Suggestions

  • The Tavern is a good place to buy cheap gifts.
  • Since this is such a short free time, focus on completing the subquests available to you.

[Combat] - Qualifier: Gaia Brigade

  • Victory: Defeat Zarcone.
  • Defeat: Cai, Theodora, or Orchel falls in battle.
  • Strategy: Let enemies come to you. I strongly suggest going over the bridge rather than through the shoals, which slow you down and lower your Avo.
  • Notes:
    • Orchel and Bonaventure come with Heal.

Cai's Path - Part 1 Chapter 5 - Cai's Battle

  • This chapter opens with an event and several tutorials.
  • First, bring Aswan to Bertrand.
  • After that, go to the Stables near the port for a tutorial on the Stable and Luring. This is a Cai-exclusive capability.
  • After that, head to the Arena for a Training tutorial. This action does not cost a turn and can be done once-per-week. It is similar to the lessons in Three Houses.
  • This is followed up by a Class Upgrade / License tutorial, which is done in the Temple Rows area. Cai will automatically be classed to an Ornius Rider.
    • This tutorial brings you to the Hightown area for the first time.

Free Time 3

Start: 3/15
End: 4/10

  • Divine Services now open
    • This is where you can pray once-per-week. There are six gods, and each has a dedicated day of the week. Praying raises your favor with a god, which can allow you to use various Blessing effects (used similarly to Fortuna's). This action does NOT cost a Turn. While you can pray at any temple on any day, you'll get a bonus on the following days.
      • Aurora - Mon
      • Mars - Tue
      • Smyrnos - Wed
      • Jurah - Thu
      • Kalla - Fri
      • Credna - Sat
    • Bless Levels are global and carry over across Paths.
    • Also, anytime you are in Dagsion, keep an eye out on the map screen to see if one of the shrine icons in Temple Row is colored in. This means you can have an audience with the god, granting some Renown. This is just a small dialogue, but no reason to pass it up. This does NOT cost a Turn.
    • If this is your first playthrough, there should be a Bulletin Board quest 'Find Fellowship at the Temples', earning you Ginji and 10 Renown.

    • The SE chest holds Zanbato (sword effective against cavalry), and the NW chest holds Iron Shield. If the enemy units get to the items first, you'll be able to take it from them once you defeat the unit.

  • Consider starting to equip your main team with Da Mina Weapons. You can find Da Mina Sword at Callianeria Port (Elektra), Da Mina Spear at Megaira (Saveilon), Da Mina Axe at Ravio Port (Melias) or Megaira (Saveilon), and Da Mina Bow at Orens (Idyia).
  • In a future chapter, you'll need 30x Cocominj, Oda Monja, or Jin Ba Jiao (combination of all three, not 30 each) for a Kindness Quest. Consider starting to farm these up now. You can buy Jin Ba Jiao and Oda Monja at Messalina Orchards (Saveilon).
  • In a future chapter, you'll need to deliver a Wild Pegasus for a Kindness Quest. Feel free to grab one now if you have time to spare. There are two pegasus Lure spots in Castalia and one in Idyia, on the other side of Stoppered Shrine.
  • Consider buying an Advanced License from Megaira. You won't be able to class up to Advanced Classes just yet, but these items are somewhat limited. You can buy one per chapter.
  • Consider buying some specialty weapons, like Halberd in Raivo Port (Melias), Flyssa in Callianeira Port (Elektra), or Ji in Port of Pandora (Castalia). These will help you handle armored units and cavalry.

[Combat] - Main Match: Battle vs. Leda

  • Victory: Defeat Leda.
  • Defeat: Cai falls in battle.
  • Strategy: You can take this map slow. Most enemies won't move until you get into their range, at least to start the match. Before luring the Demonic Beast, make sure you can surround him to take him out quickly.
  • Notes:
    • You can use Explosives on this map to deal wide-area damage. Use ZL to help see these spots.
    • Buccar defects and joins as a guest unit on Turn 3.
    • Having Armor-piercing weapons will help tremendously in this battle.
    • This battle ends with an Event Clash.

    • The barrier around Cai and Castor will lower either by hitting the two switches or by having Cai defeat Castor.

From here, you can begin Part II: War.
